How are all of my Connections to people through the same person on my father's side of the family?

On my Father's side, on Wiki Tree, the connection is always through my great-great grandmother, Amanda Wear.  On my Mother's side, in my personal tree, the connections to famous/infamous ancestors are through the ancestors of my great grandfather, Leonard Harrison Watson. On the Watson side, the lines run back to Charlemagne. I wasn't able to go back that far with my Father's ancestors.  Since my computer ate my personal tree, I can no longer look up people and references to find the exact connections.

The sooner you can add more ancestors AND siblings, and their descendents, the sooner the connections can "spread out" amongs other ancestors.

When I first started here at Wikitree, and slowly began adding my family tree, I only had one person who connected my family to the tree and all my connections went through him. That was almost 3 years ago when i joined.

Now that I have expanded my tree quite considerably, my connections now all go through other people - mostly my 2 brothers in law - the guys who married my sisters.

Pretty much all my connections to Americans comes through my french-anadian spouse because many amereicans have SOME kind of french canadian ancestry, just as he does.

However I also have some Americans who connect to me through their own english ancestry as well.

So the sooner you can expand your tree, the sooner your connections will expand as well.

I've been here five years and have added about 1,500 family members, but it took over 2 years before I had even 1 connection and that goes through about 6 marriages before going anywhere else.  I still have only that 1 connection and find that I'm 30+ steps from anyone, except for a few people who I'm 40-something steps from.

The connections to the profiles of the week and the anchor always take the shortest possible way. And it seems that this always goes through your greagreatgrandmother.

Amanda Wear is the only one of your paternal great-great-grandparents whose ancestry is on Wikitree in any detail (for your father's direct male line, beyond George Lawyer m. Amanda Wear no wives' names are on Wikitree and none of them has any siblings on Wikitree). On your mother's side it's mostly the same situation; only Vincent Huff and Lydia Early have parents on Wikitree (Lydia's line stops with the next generation and none of the Huffs past Vincent's father has a wife on Wikitree), so it's no surprise that all of your connections come through your most complete lines.
