Is Philip Deuel a true descendant of George Soule?

Regarding descendants of George Soule, does anyone know how the name Devol or Davol became Deuel in some of the lines?  Is that a legitimate connection?

I'm a descendant of Philip Deuel (Deuel-45) and I'm wondering if he is truly a descendant of George Soule.

Thanks!

Have you consulted the Soule “Pink Books” (Mayflower Families in Progress series)?

No, I haven't.  Is this an online resource, or would I have to purchase it?  I am not new to genealogy, but I haven't done much Mayflower research.

Thanks!
Jaki

The Soule pink books are still in print, so there is no online version. Volume 1 covers the first 4 generations, and parts 1-4 are generations 5 and 6. The Mayflower Society webpage will have more detail. Vol 1 lists at $20, the others are $12 each. I would expect any library with a good genealogical collection to have them,

Thank you so much, George!  I'll see what I can find.

Yes Phillip is a direct descendant of George Soule, through Joseph. His records spell the name with a "w" sound instead of a "v" sound.  I will put information from the pink book on his profile.

I am a DAVOL/DEVOL descendant. My research indicates that in the early colonial time, DAVOL was pronounced more like "devil" which (obviously) was not good. The DEVOL group changed the inflection to emphasize the second syllable; one line changed to DEE; another changed the V to a U (that's apparently your line). You should find the link somewhere in the late 1600s.
