Pretty Profiles

Has anyone worked on creating a template for a better looking public profile of a single individual?  I would like to share certain individuals from my family with others but the view for a single person isn't great and honestly it confuses them.   I'd like a single photo in the top left corner a nice headline with person's name and birth / date then the first section of text from the BIO all clearly visibile in the top half of the page.  How difficult would creating a template be?

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Hi Ed,

Maybe you should sketch up what you'd like a profile to look like. An image would be great. Profiles do need to be redesigned at some point.

As far as content on the profile, if you have good ones to show to other WikiTreers, use [[Category:Examples]].

I created something and posted it on this page http://www.wikitree.com/photo.php/e/e6/WikiTree_Genealogy_Guide_US_Presidents-5.jpg

Basically make the top part of the profile more interesting.  Keep graphics to the left hand side which is easier for most devices to view.  Create a small box with genealogy details.  Put links sources categories etc.. in the footer.  Add the mediawiki java slideshow so if multiple photos are in profile they switch.

Just my thoughts.  Allow some backgrounds.

In the top right I added any wikitree icons and included some awards badges etc...

Thanks, Ed. That's great!

The slideshow is actually something we're working on. (Naturally, we're doing it in a complicated way so it's been taking longer than expected.)

One of the most complex aspects of profiles is navigation. The navigation on a profile -- the tabs -- aren't as simple on the back-end as they look. This is especially true since every profile has so many viewing and privacy conditionals.

FWIW, as you may know, you can do backgrounds. But it has to be uploaded as an image for the profile, and they almost never look good.
I wonder if moving the categories to the bottom part of a profile as in wikipedia would make a difference?  Seems more logical that they are down with references and sources?   Just trying to make that top portion of the profile more interesting to a newcomer.
Should categories be moved to the bottom of profiles?
