Would it be possible to create a “follow” checkbox on profiles?

Would it be possible to add a “follow” checkbox to profiles, which, if checked would cause any changes to that profile to be included in my feed?  I know one can do this by asking to join the Trusted List, but a check-box would be so much simpler.  You know, sort of like what they have on Twitter.  Seems like this would be simple to implement.

I think this is a great idea Michael.  I have been frustrated by members who won't add me to the trusted list after multiple requests.  This would allow me to follow the activity on the profile without the member having to do anything.  I get tired of having to file Unresponsive Profile Manger requests, track when I submitted them and follow-up again.
A related issue concerning “feed quality” was recently discussed on another G2G post.  Having the “Wiki Genealogy Feed” joined-at-the hip to G2G keywords is not ideal and creates a lot of noise in feeds.  Two examples are: 1) common surnames like Smith, which are basically useless for generating feeds and 2) keywords such as Norway—for those interested in Norwegian genealogy—which generate feeds that contain profiles for people with the surname “Norway.”
Great idea. It would also mean that profiles you created and orphaned could be followed as well as other family members where you weren’t the profile manager and didn’t necessarily want to be on the Trusted list.
Yes, Fiona.  When I adopt orphaned profiles--some of which are of very high quality--I'd be pleased if the previous manager was keeping an eye on further changes, even if they no longer wish to be intimately involved in further edits/changes/improvements.  Also, it allows those previous managers a chance to easily view the fruits of their prior efforts.  Win-win.

Great idea!  There are profiles I have not been invited to that I very much want to follow.

If people are worried about getting too many notices, that problem could be solved by also having a "Remove" option.

In the language of Twitter, the “remove” option would be “un-follow.”

A feature like this that allowed you to add any profile to your Watch List was the most requested feature on last year's holiday wishlist. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/736826/question-week-what-wikitree-improvements-holiday-wishlist?show=736826#q736826 So far nothing . . .
