WikiTree Adoption Angels are volunteers who have taken on the mission of helping adoptees and birth families look for and connect with each other.

With our global family tree and our DNA features, WikiTree can be an invaluable asset for assisting adoptees and birth families in their search.

Angels can also help adoptees get settled into WikiTree. Even knowing how to set up their own profile can be difficult! Angels can help smooth the way.

If you would like to help adoptees, have signed our Honor Code and have been a member of WikiTree for at least 3 months, click on "ANSWER"  to post below and we'll get you going!

Some ways Angels help adoptees on WikiTree:

  • Finding birth parents using DNA and research
  • Answering questions here on G2G, directly, and in our private Google Adoptee group
  • Help them set up their profiles
  • Help them add their family to WikiTree
  • Provide and update help pages
  • Angels also do research and looks ups for other Angels

I made sure to sign in this time ☺️

Hopefully it worked..
I would like to be a part of Adoption Angels as I have a step daughter that adopted at birth. Her birth mother has been trying to locate her for several years.  Griffith-516
Addison, I sent you a message with more information. Emma :-)
I would love to learn more and become a helper! I think I may have started to understand but I am rubbish with computers.

I am the daughter, Hayley of Brian Clayton, born David Owen. I have DNA uploaded but it confuses me! When I become more experienced, joining your team would be an honour. Beth, what you have achieved on here is simple incredible.

Hayley
Hayley, I'm sending you a private message about your dad's search.
Thank you. I hope you got my reply. The DNA part on here confuses me !
Hi - I'm new to WikiTree but have been a search angel for about four years now. I've helped hundreds of adoptees across the US and Canada and have had several searches that went to South Africa and Australia as well. I'm very experienced with DNA, GEDmatch and research techniques - and have a lot more time on my hands right now - so hope to be put to work quickly! :-D
Oh, yay, Margaret! I'll send you a private message about Adoption Angels in a little bit. :-)
Any help would be gratefully received. I still haven’t been able to identify my Grandfather but do have a first cousin for Brian. I believe she is a paternal link.

Thank you very much for commenting. The comments on here give me so much hope.
Hi anonymous, you may not have been signed in when commenting so I don't know who you are--looking for your grandfather. Have you filled out an Adoption Angels application for help? Emma

Hello Alana,

I am sending you more information about the project.

Emma
I am an adoptee.

I have found some of my family.

My grandmother changed her religion, converting to Judaism, so there is almost no info on the family and religion she left behind.

Dear Emma

I did post this above before seeing that you said you have some time available.  I am not very skilled at this yet.

I am an adoptee.

I have found some of my family.

My grandmother changed her religion, converting to Judaism, so there is almost no info on the family and religion she left behind.

Love and blessings

Hello: I have experience doing this in Connecticut and would be able to assist people born there. I can also assist with vital records lookups and copies. I am a member of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists and have statutory access to vital records. Those seeking assistance for personal use should send me a private message. My office also subcontracts with other professional genealogists.

I would like to help. I may be a little slow with all of my other obligations, but it would mean a lot to me to be able to help others. We found my father's birth family a few years ago and are still making important discoveries. Together, we can all make progress.

I don't think I'm expert enough to help do all of that, but what I would like to do is let you know that I have a brother out there some place who was adopted that my sister and I would love to be able to find.  He was born around 1960 in Alabama.  Would giving my information possibly help him find us if he's looking?
by Lawana Puderer G2G6 Mach 1 (11.0k points)
Hi Lawana,

Have you signed up for any adoption registries? This is a great way to connect with adoptees looking for family.

Emma
No I haven't.  How do I do that?

Here are a couple of registries:

www.adopted.com

https://registry.adoption.com/

http://www.isrr.net/

Here is a blog post with a long list of registries:

http://www.adoptionbirthmothers.com/adoption/searches/online-adoption-search-registries/

I have never used these registries myself, so please read the terms of service before joining. You sign up as a relative searching for an adoptee. The hope is your brother will sign up at one of these registries and will make a connection.

Also, try Googling adoption registries in the state the adoption took place.

Thank you!
also - do the DNA testing! doesn't matter which one you choose. then go to GEDmatch, and put your results there. GEDmatch correlates data from any of the sites. The DNA data is how my adopted-out half sister found me. And how we've figured out who our bio-father was, and who his family was. If your data is there for your brother to find, it is easier to find you ;- )
Thank you, Jana. I would agree with this wholeheartedly. Every step you take is a possible way to make the connection.
Thank you.  I have already done all of that.  I found my biological father and family, too, which is different than the father of my brother.  It's messy.  Hopefully one day we will connect if he does his DNA.  We would be half-siblings but we should still find each other.

As an adoptee myself, yes I would like to be involved. I have managed to trace my birth mother (sadly now deceased) through researching + have made contact with one of my known 3 half sisters ( not sure if there are more so still searching)

I have no training in adoptee support.  I have helped a dna cousin ,(who was adopted),from one of the dna testing places find his family.  But it was easy for me since I have an extensive tree and it showed he and I shared a second great grandfather.  i've done trees for other people who had no idea who was in their tree.  I love helping people find their people.  I'd love to help.  I do hope there are not 10 jillion instructions to read. I'm not big on that.

Hi Vicki,

There is a bit to read. But I'll send you the welcome message and you can decide if it's too much.

Thanks!

Please count me in as an Adoption Angel. I have decades of experience in genealogy and have a PhD in research. Combine that with facilitating DNA boards and helping others find their family makes me an ideal candidate. Thanks, Susan

I would love to be a part of Adoption Angels. I'm an adoptee and am currently working on discovering my own biological family. I have helped several others in their efforts to find their own biological family and want to help others.

I have a question, I posted a request for "Adoption Angels" help finding a common relation for myself and Phillips-33611, who contacted me through 23andMe. She didn't know who her father was, not a name or anything else. Without going through the whole story, I've always wondered why neither of us was contacted about our request?

We did find out who her father is in the end, but I suggested she sign up here in order to get help, and then she didn't get it!

Lisa, I don't see an application with that Wiki-ID or your name. Let me send you a private message. I would love to get closure on this question.

I'd like to join the team to help contribute what I can.

I was able to locate some of my mother's adoption information (from New York City) that's extremely challenging as NYC is one of the places in America that doesn't make it very easy to obtain this information.

Thanks a bunch! :-)

Hi. I would be happy to help.  I have helped three adoptees find their birth families. I am New Zealand based and have good knowledge of NZ, Australia and British records

I would love to learn how to help directly or to be tasked with pieces of these puzzles that would help lead to answers for adoptees. On the one hand, I don't feel qualified, i.e. experienced enough. On the other, I am constantly researching, polishing and/or looking at/working on my or someone else's brick (or apparently brick) wall. With *that* experience, I may be a great candidate to learn about, be an Adoption Angel. smiley

Yes I would love to help at Wikitree as I already have been helping several other adoptees at various venues. My ancestry DNA/genealogy research tree is always open for all.
Have successfully reconnected my grandmother to her biological tree which reconnected her to Two more brothers who were adopted out and 3 1/2 siblings, reconnected my 1/2 uncle to his paternal lines and my grandsons paternal grandmother to her biological tree which revealed she was one of 7 or 8 children adopted out.
