Need help with the surname Batty

Question

Hi, please can anyone help me out with my grandmother? Born Dec 22nd 1923 & died Jun 1976 ( I think) her maiden name was Batty and her mother's maiden name was Crowther, this is my Nan's wikitree id Batty-296. ( Sorry, I should of mentioned apparently she has 4 sisters and 1 brother and it was the brother's son who told me. )

Heres Herbert Sykes Batty's Birth from GRO Register : 

BATTY, HERBERT  SYKES	-
GRO Reference: 1894  S Quarter in WAKEFIELD  Volume 09C  Page 21

 

There's no mothers maiden name listed and from the marriage record I posted he lists his father as William Sykes Shaw. So I think Herbert Sykes Batty was born out of wedlock

Herbert Batty in the 1901 England Census

Herbert looks to be living with his grandparents in 1901, there is a William Shaw living with the family also, he's listed as Son-In-Law. So I think Hebert's Mother is Essy Shaw nee Batty

Which bit are you stuck on Shann? Your Grandmothers record is blanked out on the 1939 household register, she wont appear on any of the published Census records as the most recent census published is the 1911 England and Wales Census, The 1921 Census should be published in January 2022 at Find My Past. You Have her Birth and Marriage GRO Ref now so you can order certificates if you wanted but you already know her birth date and mothers maiden name, I've found her parents and siblings, so I'm not sure what else there is to find.

Because of the 100 year rule on all records for the UK Shan. 

Individuals’ records remain closed for 100 years from their date of birth (100 year rule).  Records remain closed for people born less than 100 years ago until proof of death is verified.

Even if it wasnt blanked out all it would have is her name and birth date which you already know. Her address at time was 

36 Ashdown RD, Wakefield, Yorkshire, England UK.

The address her parents are living at.

Because she was born in 1923, the first time you'd have seen her on a census would be the 1931 England and Wales Census, Unfortunately, the 1931 census for England and Wales was destroyed by fire in 1942, and no census was taken in 1941 because of the Second World War. So the 1939 Household register is the best we have, but due to the 100 year rule some of the records are closed (blanked out) but as I said it would only give you her name, Address and birthdate and occupation if she had one, it didn't even list birthplace on the 1939 household register and you already have all the rest of the information bar her occupation, if she had one at 15 years old.

There was 4 sisters and one brother...  told to me by my Nan's (Batty-296) nephew, his father was her brother....
