You've offered very little detail, but perhaps you can omit the sources in your GEDCOM export?

And how do I do that?  I know nothing about .ged files.  I try to upload it to my wikitree and it just sits there at 34,000 line and does nothing.  I let it sit all night, nothing happens and it still says I have not uploaded any files.
Again, you shared very little detail, such as the software you are using or method used to export.
Also, please keep in mind that once you import a GEDCOM file, it does not automatically create profiles for the people contained within. You must manually match the names in your upload to any (potentially) existing profiles.
I used gedmatch to upload from Ancestry.  I said, I know NOTHING about how to tackle this.   I have never worked with a .ged file, so I don't even know what to ask, or what I should do with the file from Ancestry to upload to wikitree. All I know is that at 34,000 line it quits and stays right there during the upload to gedmatch. So being specific isn't in my realm of questions yet.

You can use a desktop genealogy program (there are many good free ones) to break up you gedcom into smaller pieces to upload to WikiTree. I also like to use the program to format my sources so that there is less clean up needed.

You can also just add the profiles manually, which is recommended so that you have complete control over the information placed into each profile you create. This is also a marvelous way to get used to WikiTree.

Recommended by who? Oh, that would be me.

Lucy, do you know of a free one that permits gedcom breakup?  I was looking for one that I could use for that purpose, but the only free ones I found don't include that feature unless you upgrade to the paid version.

@Gaile

The free version of Legacy Family Tree allows you to split an existing file. You would need to import the entire GEDCOM & then split the file.

Wow, THANX Vivian!!!

You might want to check out these help pages for handling gedcom files. GEDCOM File Usage Primer and GEDCOMpare Process.

And as has been mentioned above, importing the gedcom does not automatically add your tree. You still need to review each individual, compare with WikiTree for possible duplicates and add one at a time.

Thank you

Okay the GEDCOM File Usage Primer was very helpful in understanding what it is all about.  Yes I will need to split my files.  Since everything was built on Ancestry, I clicked the link on how to split that file.  The link is inactive and shows no information. I have no choices to eliminate files from Ancestry.  It just downloads the 13K people all in one file.  NOW WHAT?!? Ack!

See my post to @Gaile above.

I tested it by importing a GEDCOM with over 18,000 people.

If your Gedcom file contains images (photos, source documents, etc.), they are likely to be the culprit. They will not get uploaded to WikiTree, but they can add greatly to the size of a GEDCOM file.

There should be an option to exclude images when you export your GEDCOM. Try that!

But a GEDCOM is a text file, which cannot contain images.  It will contain links to those images elsewhere, though.
I am sure that it includes thousands of photos.  When I went to download from Ancestry, it does not give me the option to exclude photos, or anything else for that matter.  It just starts the download.  So what should I do now?
