I'm 17 steps from Jefferson Davis with my connections through my Alexander line

I got 15 through my South Carolina branch. I’m unsure whether to brag on this one. But it is by marriage.
Yep, apparently I'm 16 steps, also through my Alexander line.
I am 15 through my mother, who was a McCoy and Davis and Taylor family. I find it fascinating that we are connected and is that not the purpose of this site to learn who we are connected to good or bad. It is history.
15 degrees or steps of separation. James Taylor, ancestor of former presidents James Madison and Zachary Taylor, is an ancestor of mine. Zachary Taylor's daughter, Sarah Knox Taylor, was Jefferson Finis Davis's first wife. Sarah died young, they had no issue, and so there is no known, keyword known, blood relationship between us otherwise. Sarah Knox Taylor Davis, on the other hand, is my 4th cousin 5 times removed, or half 4th cousin 5 times removed as it was through another wife of the aforementioned James Taylor. However, as I am descended from James Taylor on both sides of my family, paternal and maternal, this makes me twice a half 4th cousin 5 times removed with Davis's first wife.

15 degrees; his first wife Sarah Knox Taylor is my half-4th cousin 5x removed (she's descended from the 2nd marriage of my 8th great-grandmother Barbara Morgan who married first to John Rousby and second to Capt. Richard Smith).

My great-grandmother was Mary Nettie Davis (m. Raynor.) She told us (and we believed her) that Jefferson Davis was her uncle.

She did, indeed, have an uncle named Jefferson Davis, but he was not THE Jefferson Davis. None of us knew the truth until I started tracing the family tree back in the 1990s. She pranked us good!

I am 19 degrees from Jefferson Davis through my husband's family. My great-grandmother, who was a Davis, is 20 degrees away, and that's through her husband's family!

I was surprised to find that I'm just 12 steps!  I'm normally not real close to U.S. Southerners because I don't have Southern ancestry.

My connection is by way of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Van_Benthuysen-88 -- a New Netherland descendant from Albany, New York, who was the wife of one of the brothers of Jefferson Davis.
