I would appreciate any help in extending my knowledge of my maternal line.  The earliest maternal line ancestor is Catherine/Katherine Hartman born about 1810 I believe in Pennsylvania and died sometime after 1869.  She is Hartman-1257 in WikiTree so you can see more about her husband Daniel Staley and children who resided in Washington County and Greene County, PA.  Thanks for any help you can give on this little part of the Hartman line.

The 1850 census in Washington County is here, although it suggests she is way younger than Daniel.

Hi Maureen,  Yes, this is the correct family.  If you look at the image of this census record, you see that the writing looks more like she is 39 rather than 29.  I need to find her death and burial information.   Also more about where in PA she was born, who her parents were etc.

By the way, I found her listed on the death certificates for two of her children, Samuel and Nancy Jane.  Spellings were different though Kathryn and Katherine.  Just depends on who gave the information.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Judy, I have been searching for this information as well I found a Hartman line that descended from Swintzburg Hesse Cassel Germany still researching. This is what I have so far I think this is Catherine's Grandparents

I have a Christopher Hartman born May 6 1750 and his brothers are Conrad, Jacob and Cornelius. Christian married a Mary Hutchinson, Christopher  Immigrated to America in1753 with his father and four brothers he served in the American Revolution and came to live in Bucks County ,PA. He married Mary Hutchinson in New Jersey Aug or Apr 20 1776 I'm still researching this line to find the connection I am a descendant on Staley Paternal side my father is Louis A. Staley , his father Jesse B. Staley His father Hugh Staley his Father Frederick Staley his father Daniel
Thanks so much for the contact Mary.  I will look at this more closely in the next couple of days when I have more time.  I am not in touch with any other Staley lines from Daniel so I am so glad to meet you!  I have tested with Family Tree DNA and also put myself on Gedmatch.  Have you done a DNA test yet?  Even the family finder on Family Tree DNA is very helpful and not expensive.  More soon.
Hi Mary,

I am trying to work on a little genealogy since we have a nice rainy day.  I am just checking to see if you have done any DNA testing.  I have tested with Family Tree DNA and so has my mom and a make first cousin.  Would you be interested in doing the $59 Family Finder test?  It would be interesting to me to see how someone else from the Staley line fits in with the rest of us and it may help clear up some relationships of other matches.  Right now I have a holiday promo code from Family Tree DNA for $5 off the family Finder.  Let me know if you would like to use the code.  It is only good for one use and expires tomorrow.  they have different promos every week for the holidays.
Back to the Hartman question.  It would be very interesting to me to find if our STaley line traces back to Germany.  My mom's family never said that we were German but always said that (among other things)  we were part Dutch.  I have always wondered if that referred to the Pennsylvania Dutch where were of course German.  Not something I have ever figured out how to look into.

Do you happen to have any photos of the Staleys or Catherine Hartman?  I don't even think that I have her death date.  Something that may interest you is that I have two letters written by Frederick Staley from when he and his brother Samuel were in the civil war.  I will have to dig them out and share them with you.

Also, do you know much about Frederick's brothers and sisters?  I have some information but lots of gaps.  The biggest gap is who Mary E. Staley had her three children with.  She never married and it was quite the scandal.  If you have head anything about that, I would be very interested.  We have no idea who was the father any of her children including my grandmother, Grace Arvella Staley.

Hi Judy, Frederick's Staley birth date Sept.27 1828 D Oct31 1906 lived and died in West Pike Run TWP. WA. County PA his sibling are

Elizabeth Staley b1818

Isabel Staley b1822

Mary Staley b1826

Anna Staley b1834

Charles Staley b1840

I was told by my Aunt that Frederick's mother was Isabel Cooper and

Catherine is a second wife to Daniel his father and my Mom said when I asked about Mary E. Staley that she had married a James Staley and they were First cousins and the family didn't talk about it it was even said that they didn't allow them to live together but I haven't searched marriage records for this yet ,

Catherine Hartman or Harman birth date bef 1825 Sept

Also Judy I'm still researching ship records for the first Staley arrival in this country I have a long list that I am working on and the connection to the family the history of The Staley Family is very interesting I must say most of them came to this country escaping religious persecution and for a better life.
Hi Mary, This is interesting.  I would love to solve the mystery of Mary E. Staley 1841-1933.   I don't think that the name James Staley has ever come up in my research or family letters etc. but I need to gather them all and review things.

The information that you listed about Frederick Staley birth and death dates pretty much matches what I have but none of Frederick's siblings match the ones that I have.  So did Daniel Staley  (about 1803 til after 1869) have two different families?  One with Isabel Cooper and one with Catherine Hartman?

This is also making me wonder if my grandmother, Grace Arvella Staley's (1878-1945) Wellsville, Ohio birth record was correct that her parents were Mary Bowman and David Staley and that the last names were not switched to save face.  Huh.

Can I look at the tree that you have posted on Wikitree?  I am having trouble find you.  I am Lesso-1.

I am going to look back at the information you have sent and will try to work on this soon.  I won't be home again to sit down with any of it til Sunday and may have some more time next weekend.

Thanks so much for the contact and thanks for sharing.  Keep me posted!

Thanks for the search Wayne.  These folks do have similar names but the dates are just too far off also in the wrond place as you noted.  Daniel Staley would have been born around 1803 and Catherine about 1810.  I believe that Daniel's father was a Michael Staley born around 1765 (I have not mother for Daniel Staley).  There is a Michael Staley as head of houshold in the 1830 Census for Morris, Greene County, PA.  This household had 6 people which would be the correct number.  It has been awhile since I went to Waynesburg, Greene County, PA to research so I think I need to go back.  If you come across anything else that might work, let me know

Thanks again for your effort!

Judy
