This new proposal aims to achieve a consistent naming scheme for the categories used for ships that carried emigrants from / immigrants to any place, in any century. Right now shipping categories are messy and inconsistent - there are at least four different ways that are currently being used.

This would have an impact on ships carrying Huguenot migrants, pioneers from France arriving in Canada (including Percheron migrants, Filles du Roi, ....), Acadians in their various travels to and from France, French people arriving in Louisiana, 19th and 20th century French migrants to the USA and other countries, as well as any French migrants travelling by sea (migrants to Algeria in the 19th century, migrants to France in the 20th century...).

Please take a look at this thread and comment if you have any questions, concerns, or to voice your support. It is very important to do this now so that the categorization project is aware of all the points of view.
