Can't enter census by "cite your source" button or as a source [closed]

I found an 1841 England and Wales census for John Maltby.  I cannot enter it on his profile by using the "cite your source button" on the selections.  It triggers an error 5, invalid ref. tag, use <references />.  I tried to enter the same census as a plain source.  It will not record either.  What is wrong?  For easier
separation of all the John Maltby's sources I would use his son George, birth year of 1836, living in Little Carlton, Lincolnshire in 1841.

Hi Beulah,

I think I fixed it. The <references/>  tag had extra spaces in it.

David, the extra space that caused the error flag was the one between "/" and ">" at the end.  The space before the "/" is correct.  Although the code is forgiving and still works if you do not have that space, it is technically not correct.  The correct tag is:  <references />
I was just going to say that is the way a lot of them have been entered in the past.  Extra eyes helped solve my problem.
Thanks to both of you.  I just couldn't see it.
Beulah, the extra space after the "/" was what upset the apple cart.  The space before it is the correct way.  I have seen several people give advice on G2G to enter it without the correct space - it will work without that space, but is technically incorrect and we cannot be absolutely sure that someday a new code version may no longer read that as ok.
I added to my answer above as you were editing it.  Thank you very much.   That space just didn't register for me.  Extra eyes are better than two originals any time.
