Blurring the line between Categories and Free-Space Profiles.

I fellow Wikitreeer showed me how to find "What Links Here" for Free-Space profiles. This gives you a list of all the profiles that link to the Free-Space profile. This is similar to Categories, and how the Categories automatically gives you a list of all the profiles in the Category.

Categories have the added feature that they can be hierarchical.

Evidently, Free-Space profiles also support a hierarchical structure.

As an example, look at this Free-Space profile: http://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Space:From_Domesday_to_Dukedom_and_Beyond. At the bottom is a link for "What Links Here". If you click on this link, it will list all the profiles that use this Free-Space profile. Also notice that one of them is a Free-Space profile called "Space:Holme Pierrepont". Clicking on (← links), next to this name, takes you to the next level in the hierarchy. This example also has a third level called "Sources-1".

Using this method, you can build a hierarchy of Free-Space profiles. This may not be the same as categories, but it is very similar.

As a side note, notice that most of the (← links) are broken links. (← links) is only supported for Free-Space profiles.

This is brilliant.

Apparently you can also skip the http bit and use double square brackets

[[Special:Whatlinkshere/Space:mypagename|Pages that link here]]

That is great.

I don't know why, but the variable {{PAGENAME}} does not work. I tried:

[[Special:Whatlinkshere/{{PAGENAME}}|Pages that link here]]

...and it doesn't work. It does work for people profiles, just not for Free-Space profiles.

An excellent tip! Thanks for passing it on.
Love it, Thank you.

Radical! Just tried it on my Arichat Parish page http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Arichat_Parish.  Useful in the extreme.

Thank you! I will try that.

I am using a personal category to move my genealogy tutorial to wikitree.

First I copied the source code for my table of contents. My links no longer work.

But I am using that outline to replace each link with a wiki link to a new free space profile for each page. When I finish, I will have a category page with an outline of  links to about 50 free space profiles of information copied from my now defunct online tutorial. Fortunately, most if it was backed up on my computer.

By using the equal sign codes I have divided the tutorial outline as it was originally constructed and wikitree automatically gave me internal page links to each section. The last section is empty, but is named Index to Tutorial Space Pages, and then the normal category index appears. What fun!!

At the present time, you can only see my tutorial from my profile page if you follow the Sharon's Genealogy Tutorial category. Later, if this all works, I will add a category link to Geneallgy Help.

Take a look at Sharon's Geneallgy Tutorial from Troy-204

Thanks!
