I use Firefox and am able to access my newly created RootsWeb.com account. And I am having no problem perusing the MANY search results pages in my thus far fruitless search for your James Lewis Greer (search function definitely needs improvement)!

Could you be more specific regarding your problems with the site when you use Firefox? Maybe some WikiTree Tekkie (alas, I am not a tekkie) can help!
I just tried my firefox to pull up  rootsweb.com  and it finally linked.  I use familysearch.org constantly as a Researcher and as a Volunteer to  key in data.  I  pay for fold3 so I have that.  I can  not pay for ancestry, used to so my family tree is on it and MyHeritage.  I google the names and get a lot of suggestions like findagrave, wikitree, etc..Douglascountyhistoricnewspapers is also free.

Thank you for all your suggestions.  I will certainly miss  rootsweb.com I could usually find something in there.

There are a number, but it depends on what you are looking for. The old Rootsweb had some nice features. Some of the others are

  • FamilySearch/FamilyTree
  • Geni
  • MyHeritage (paid and free membership)
  • Geneanet (paid and free membership)
  • Ancestry (free version is quite limited)

Several of the subscription applications can be used without cost the LDS Family History Centers, and at some public libraries.
