I am looking for the parents of James Edwards of Surry County, Virginia who married Elizabeth Collier, the daughter of Martha Cryer and Benjamin Collier in 1799 in Surry County, VA.
This James Edwards, based on census age brackets of the time placing his birth based on age at mid 1760's including an unsourced "1764" from an Ancestry.com profile and his death in 1832 with will, showcasing that he gave land to his two oldest children, Benjamin and Elizabeth Ann which straddled both sides of Swan Point Rd which still exists today near Swan's point towards Sunken Marsh (now Meadows) Branch.
I cannot find him sifting through various Edwards wills in Surry County, Virginia but find it interesting that he and his children married into families that appear to be a part of what could be described as a kinship group, these families marrying into each other themselves.
For his two oldest daughters, he was listed as deceased in the first (1823/1824) marriage bond and in the second marriage bond a year later, A William Edwards took the role of guardian. James Edwards then reappears in the 1830 census and his oldest son's marriage as guardian in 1831. Both daughters from the marriage bonds are listed in his will, Martha Kee with her husband's surname. A younger brother, James William married as a widow his oldest sister's husband's sister including the husband as a widow living on the younger brother's property in later years...anyways, this is a small second question:
What would make a Father appear deceased for at least one year only to reappear...
Anyways, looking for James Edwards of Surry County, Virginia mid 1760's to 1832, who married Elizabeth Collier, who had together six children:
Elizabeth Ann Edwards (married James Bennett Jr.), Benjamin Nicholas Edwards (married Susan Ingram), Martha Kee Edwards (married Thomas Charles), James William Edwards (married Rebecca King...parents Philip King, Elizabeth Moring), Lucy Ann Edwards and Sarah Edwards.
