Should we really keep this parentage?

I have been looking for a couple of decades for anything about Thomas' parentage and found nothing. Apparently it comes from someone who says that she believes it but cannot prove it due to lack of records. Is this a good enough reason to maintain the link? Breaking the link might encourage further research.

I trust your research, but I wonder if technically there will be problems in retaining Thomas and Edward as brothers, if they are delinked from John Batten.  I know if you create siblings, the system automatically creates a profile for the father.

Is it possible to delink the profile for John Batten from the profile for his father, and then rename John to Unknown?  That way you can still retain Thomas and Edward Batten as brothers, but make it clear that their father's name is Unknown.

Or is there doubt about Thomas and Edward being brothers?

Thomas and Edward were brothers. Their father is unknown. John was a real person so he needs to be retained. (It is also possible that John WAS their father but I've seen no reason to suppose that is true). I am proposing to add an unknown for father. I'm inclined to think that the answer, if any, will come from Bristol one day.
Just reread what you wrote, John. Yes, change John Batten to unknown then create a new John Batten would be best way to go.
