Nocei was my mother's maiden name..First name was Anne.  I am orignally from Winnipeg and I did have an Uncle Bill and Aunty Ann that moved to Arizona around 1949..They had one son by the name of Ronald (Ronnie) and the last I heard he was in California.
Hello Ralph. It would seem we are cousins as Ronald is my father and your mother is apparently my Great Aunt. Do you have any information about the Nocei line of the family? If you are able to send me a private message I would appreciate it.

Thank You,

Vanessa
Could you please send me your email address.

five in the family.  Three boys Bill, Pat, Mickey and two girls Doris and my mon Ann.

Baba was Rose and Gramps was Theo.  Never knew him.

How is Ronnie?

Ralph

Maybe it was respelled at the point of entry at immigration.  I looked at his profile but the privacy level is restricted, maybe you could open the privacy level and others can have a look and maybe see a little more detail in order to help you.

I have opened the profile. I do not why it was closed. I have been told my family is of Ukrainian decent on both sides of my father's bloodline. I don't know if this is a 100% accurate. I do know I cannot find any history of my Surname or any similar names that it might have been adapted from upon the family immigrating to Canada. My father and I are the only ones living with this last name so there are no family members to ask.

You are not alone...there are many Nocei names in Canada of Ukrainian ancestry in addition to those I mentioned below, a lot of them probably still alive.  You just "lost" them for awhile, maybe.

Maybe the privacy level on his wife and father as well.  When you look for records it is very helpful to have more than one persons name on a record to be more certain that is the person you are looking for.
I have changed this also, in fact I went in a changed all the privacy levels on my deceased family members. I appreciate your help very much.
When I was very young I believe I met a few cousins with my last name. But all have since passed on. There was even a boy born around the same year as me but from what I can gather he passed away at the age of 10 or so thus ending the chance of the name continuing.

All the family on my father's side remained in Winnipeg to my knowledge.

There are several documents (census, naturalization, etc)  in ancestry.com for the Nocci or Nocei surname.

There are MANY with that surname on Canadian voters' lists, such as:

Email me if you want to see some of the other Nocei surnames or let me know if you have any first names in particular that you might want to find.

There are also some on the Mannitoba death index and also many listed in  "Canadian Phone and Address Directories, 1995-2002". Perhaps you could contact some of them to see if they are related.

All that is my family, though from what my father tells me his birthdate was lied about for immigration purposes. I am cloudy as to why he would have had to say he was younger by 3 years. According to him telling me he is 80 now he would have actually have been 15 at the time of immigration not 12.
I'll bet passage was cheaper for a child under a certain age.

So, Ronald Mathew Nocei is your father and Anne and William your grandparents?  Knowing that, we can look for more of your ancestors and cousins...a good starting point.

William Nocei and Anna Citulec were married at Winnipeg 2 Jun 1934. Registration 023166.

There is a 1941 newpaper article that mentions a soldier by day, barber by night Pte. W. Nocei, of the Cameron Highlanders (of Canada) at (what I interpret as) the Alberta Infantry Training Centre which would be in Calgary, AB. His service records, if you can get them, may give you some leads. See http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/Pages/obtain-copies-military-service-files.aspx#c

There is a potential father for William in the person of Theodore Nocei born 7 Feb 1885 who died about 5 Jan 1937, in Manitoba, Registration 004039. His obituary appears on Page 2 of the 5 Jan 1937 Winnipeg Tribune, and mentions a number of surviving family members. Jan 6 gives funeral details:

"Theodore Nocei, 51, of 1022 Pritchard ave., who died Tuesday, will be buried Saturday. Funeral services, arranged by Zawidoski's funeral service, will be conducted at, 2 p.m. In the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox church. Rev. J. Zazuliak will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside cemetery."

I found out last night the father of William was named Fredrick and his grandfather was Michael. Theodore was maybe an uncle? He died very close to the same time as Michael. I will see myself what I can find out. Thank You very much!
Some of them came to the US, right?  Do you know where most of them went in the US?  That would be a good way to sort them out.
From what I know most if not all stayed in Winnipeg. Also last night when I read to my father about Theodore's burial he remembered the name Zawidoski as being a cousin to my grandmother Anna (Citulec). Also you asked about my great great grandfather Michael, he died in Winnipeg also.

Hi Vanessa!  Thank you for joining WikiTree. I Googled your Nocei and had 12,000 hits.  I saw your name on the list, but it seems there may be some cousins you don't know about.  Best of luck with your research!  At least the name isn't Smith. wink
