James Mott & Grace Thurgar both parents of Adam Mott Sr?

On the profile of Adam Mott Sr.:

  • Grace Thurgar (Thurgar-1) is listed as the mother.
  • There is no father listed.
  • James Mott (Mott-1816) is listed as the only husband of Grace Thurgar (and marriage of 1620 coincides with birth of Adam Mott).

Shouldn't James Mott be listed as the father?

From a logic standpoint, that might make sense, however, she could have been pregnant by another man, out of wedlock.  James may have married her anyway.

If there is a will that mentions Adam as his son, or other documentation that would substantiate the theory, but the only husband is not enough.

I have run into similar issues, such as 3 generations of "Burgess Nelson"s but there is an utter lack of information showing the relationship between gen 1 and gen 2.

I suggest you work with the theory, but see if you can find more information that will help prove the point.

Your logic is correct, but for the sake of accuracy, the only time two profiles should be linked as "parent and child" is if a source document confirms that. Sometimes all we have is a preponderance of evidence - notes, family lore, "logic" - but in these cases, the profile should note that the connection is not confirmed.
