4 weeks left, can you believe it?  Who's 48 for 48?

I am! yeslaugh

Me! I am there!

Me three!!  laugh

I have really enjoyed doing these!!!!

First week of January I thought that it would be a lot of work and would become tiresome after a few months.  Quite to the contrary - it is one of my favorite weekly WT activities.

I have so much to be thankful for -- my husband, health, a lovely place to live, family and friends (including WikiTree friends), but today I want to share a photo that was taken yesterday of an event my entire family is very thankful for.

This is my nephew Kelsey who is a medic in the US Navy.  He just returned from a deployment in the Middle East.  His wife and his one year old son are with him.  We are all very thankful to have him home safely.

This is a photo of my grand aunt Phoebe and my living cousin. She loved to go to a restaurant  and have a picture taken of her food. She had been poor growing up and going through the depression. She often told me that I did not understand what it was like to be so poor that you were hungry. She always gave thanks at every meal, and I am very thankful that I have never gone though anything like she went through.

Alexis your aunt was gorgeous, how sad she grow up pourly, thank You for sharing this wonderful photo
Thank you Susan for your sweet comment about my wonderful aunt. She was so fun, people feel in love with her. She was very well known for rescuing animals and helping others.
Hearing about her rescue animals makes me love her Alexis
Thank you, Alexis, for this photo of your beautiful aunt! She certainly does seem to be happy.
Robin, thank you for your sweet comment. She loved eating out, and during much of her hard times she worked as a waitress. She always left a good tip on the table. She was always happy and smiling. I took my children and stayed at her house two weeks every summer. My children loved to be with her and all the rescue pets.

I am grateful for J.B and Lucille Mansfield, who took in my grandpa Victor Johnson. My mom told me that he ran away from the Oddfellows Home where he lived when he was a young teenager, but she wasn't sure. I do know that his father passed away when he was 4 and his mother was ill and unable to take care of him. He lived at the Oddfellows Home in Walla Walla, Washington, and later lived with the Mansfields and worked on their ranch. I am thankful to them for providing my grandpa with a loving home, and their generosity and care for the underdogs of society is an admirable example to follow. These pictures show them holding me when I was a baby.

Erin what a wonderful story, I am happy for they took care of your grandfather

Thank You for sharing this wonderful photo and story
Thank you, Susan! I read the story of your mother as well and how she was taken in when she was orphaned and new to Denmark; that's a beautiful story! I'm so glad there are kind, open hearted people in the world like this.
Erin thank you, I am so grateful that there are people that took care of your granddad and my mother, I can only imagine how difficult it most have been standing alone

Also for my mother that are raise in Hong Kong

I'm so, so grateful to my Grandma Shirley, who was the family memory keeper. She researched the family tree, kept in touch with distant relatives, knew everybody's names and how they were related. I miss her dearly.

In this photo she is on the far right, presenting her daughter Cindy to her mother Mildred on the left, and grandmother Josie in the center. Shirley was 22 in this photo.

I am grateful for my great aunt Hattie Forrey, whom I never met, as she died before I was born. She was an amateur genealogist, and wrote a booklet of her family's history and genealogy. A copy of this was presented to me when I was about 8. It was very cool, because it traced her ancestors back to before the revolutionary war, when they came over from Europe.

Thank you for these photos and the story. Your great aunt reminds me of my grandmother who gave me a notebook full of my grandfather's family history and triggered my interest in genealogy.

I am very thankful for the Canadian (and provincial) Health service. Without them I would have eventually have died leaving my young son without a mother. That was 12 years ago. (in 2007).

And yes I had to have Brain surgery!! Those are metal staples in my skull!!!

When my grandma was born in 1930, she was very premature. She only weighed two pounds, and she didn't yet have any fingernails or toenails. The family made a little incubator out of shoebox and kept her next to the fireplace to keep her warm.

She survived, and she grew up to be a completely healthy adult, and I am thankful!

This my grandma, Betty, on the left, with her mother, Maud.

Thankful that my Grandfather was obsessive about detail.  In his photo albums, on the back of each photo is listed the name of EVERYONE in the pics.  Some of these go back to 2nd and 3rd great grandparents.  I have dozens and dozens of photos, some of large family reunions and they are all listed with names on the back:

by SJ Baty G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
SJ, you are fortunate that you have so much information about your family. Both both of the photos are wonderful, and the second one is amazing that everyone is named. Thank you for sharing these.

I have been blessed with a great and relatively large family ... in 2006 we had a large family reunion in Winter Park, CO ... about 20 of the possible 23 were in attendance.

This event really made me so thankful for all there and those few who couldn't make it.

Below is one of many photos taken.

I'm thankful for my paternal great-grandfather's family. Almost all the Claffeys in western Canada are descended from these people. The picture, taken in 1924, is the only one of the whole immediate family. The oldest is 55, the youngest is 6.

I am thankful that my grandparents Louisa Banks Flintoff Shane and Ralph Stewart Shane loved to take photos of the people and events in their lives, and that I have inherited their photos.  Now I know much more about them than I ever knew before, such as the short time they lived in the small mining town of Saw Pit, Colorado after they were first married.  Here are photos of them just before they left Saw Pit to return to New Jersey in June of 1920.

I am grateful that my grandmother Mimi (as we called her) was in my life as I grew up. Here she is flanked by my mother and my aunt Maggie in Miami in December of 1943.

Here is a picture more in line with my own memory of her. Again in Miami and probably mid-1950s.

She was confined to a wheelchair through most of our time together. During that time she was shuffled between my parents, Aunt Maggie & Uncle Maurice, and her sister Irene. The memory of her time with us is very dear to me. I can only imagine the pain she lived with; she had rheumatoid arthritis. Despite that she was a kind and loving person.
