51 High street Glasgow

Question

I have found a Hugh McGregor Shoemaker living at 51 High street Glasgow in 1835, I have a  Hugh McGregor  shoemaker barony Parish on a wedding certificate 1854 I'm hoping its the same person, anyone any idea how I find out who the other resident were at 51 High Street in 1835-1840 ?.

Any idea how old he would have been in 1841? The 1841 census did not include occupations.

I found no shoemaker Hughs in the 1851 census.

The 1841 census DID include occupations, it was relationship to others in the household that was missing.  However, I've searched the 1841 census index on findmypast and can't see any Hugh McGregor shoemakers in Lanarkshire never mind Glasgow.  Is it possible that the 1854 Hugh is a son of the 1835 Hugh?

The entry I have is from the 1835 glasgow postal directory which states Hugh McGregor shoemaker 51 High street, I have recieved further information relating to a family including Duncan McGregor and a younger brother Hugh McGregor along with other siblings, I have to see if this fits in with the time line as the only birth date Im confident with is Duncan McGregor 1834-1887,

The census should be on Scotland’s People. If you can narrow down the record, there is a small fee to look at it. You may be able to do a free search on findmypast.co.uk to eliminate some records.

You could try the Scottish Post Office directories online via the National Library of Scotland website at https://digital.nls.uk/directories/index.html They're also available on the internet archive at https://archive.org/details/scottishdirectories

Thats where I found the entry in the glasgow postal directory 1835 , he even gets a mention in the bell of Brae area under the heading of  barony parish bridgetown district, but I dont know why ? thank you for your interest and being on the same frequency .

As noted above the full available census is online at Scotland's People.  To see it there is a modest charge.  However some areas of the 1841 census did not survive.  See this note:

This is a free search of 1841 Census on Family Search  I queried for Hugh McGregor and Glasgow.  It brought back a number of entries.  You will need to check each one.
