As stated in many G2G, the drop down for the location fields is from Family Search.

When I removed the church from the Marriage Location, since it should not be in a location field, Baltimore, Maryland is seen in the drop down.  United States is only seen with a year of 1776 -.  There are other drop down choices that state Baltimore, Maryland with 1659-1776 or with Baltimore as county with 1674-1776, so the dropdown is correct, as it is.

People either choose the United States or they enter it, but the dropdown is correct.

Why should the church not be in the location field? since it is a precise location, I'd have thought it would be ideal in the marriage location field.
That.s a strange way to go. The church should obviously not be in the births and deaths location. Unless of course she dropped the child at the altar in a far too late marriage or someone dropped dead during a funeral. But the church is the absolute marriage location in the earlier records. If we are going to go for stripped down locations I would far prefer modern than historical. We seem to have lost our way with indexing. FS has proved to me that the wider the location the better. The better the chances of data matches. But marriages are nearly always tied to the church. Lets not drive more people away with making things more pedantic.

It has been stated in multiple G2G that the location fields is supposed to be a location, ie city where the event took place.  At least, that is my understanding.  They don't want the hospital where a birth or death took place, nor the church or park where a marriage took place.  Those places are supposed to be put into the biography with other information.  The location fields are consistent if they have only a city, etc, not a place within a city, in all location fields.
