Astrid Spaargaren is a Wonderful WikiTreer

Astrid has been instrumental in getting Jacob Plancius on WikiTree. Jacob was a renowned Dutch preacher and cartographer, domiciled in Amsterdam, generally recognized as the first map maker ever to indicate a possible sea route through the Arctic Ocean. It is now known as the NorthWest Passage with Canadian sovereignty being challenged by the USA and Russia. Astrid agreed with me that Jacob deserved a place on WikiTree, being a "notable" Dutch person and proceeded to enthuse her colleagues, and do all the work with me as a grateful and highly impressed observer.

Oops Gus, I guess you mean Petrus Plancius, like Willem Vermeulen noticed in his answer below... But anyway, great you awarded Astrid!

Well done Astrid. At Greeters we rather like to claim you as our own but here is testimony to other wonderful WikiTree Contributions.

OOOH!!! Thank you so much Gus!

I am so sorry. I'm always late on these wonderful appreciations. As they are unexpected. But much appreciated of course!!!

I have, I think good excuses/reasons why it took so long before I noticed this and why I missed it....

My hub turned 60 the 28th of November and his wish was to celebrate that in New York City. So we were away from 25th of November till the 3rd of December. Jet lag, laundry, catching up, work and preparations for the seasonal celebrations ......

I promised we would start a DRP challenge on the family and we will. But had to postpone it Gus.

We will soon.

Again too much honor. I just love WT. But as said before: Thank you so much!
Gilly you re a star! Thank you.

Nice work Astrid! (Sidenote: wasn't Petrus Plancius the famous cartographer / astronomer, and Jacob his son?) Anyways, nice work connecting up another older famous "Dutchman" and thanks for suggesting it!

Willem,

Yes, you are right, and Petrus's is one of the first Plancius profiles Astrid created last week. Jacob certainly was not famous, Other than his 1603 baptism registration nothing is known about him (yet).

And we are still missing an even older famous cartographer from Flanders: Gerard Mercator.

We need to work on that Jan!

As we do need Jodocus Hondius, his son Henricus and son in law Johannes Janssonius here and of course their rival Willem Blaeu.

Way to go! :)
Thank you Willem. Way to go still!
