I’d like to join the project.  At least two of my ancestors served in the American Revolution, and one served (and died in service) in the War of 1812.

Hi Edward! Thanks for joining our Project. I've awarded you your badge. Check out our task list here. Jump right in. We look forward to your participation!

I would like to join. In the over 8000 people in my family tree, quite a few were in the military. Including President Thomas Jefferson, many Military Officers, and a lot more privates in the infantry.
I would like to join. My dad served in Vietnam from 69-71. His dad served in WWII by lying about his age to enlist in the Army. He was later stationed in Germany & Korea (after the wars). My grandmother was an Army nurse when my dad was born. Her father was a Japanese POW in WWII. Another great grandfather was drafted for both WWI and WWII. I have traced other ancestors to the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War (fairly confident on that one).
Hi, my name is Chris,I am a veteran and a avid genealogist . I would like to join this project as I am very proud of all my ancestors that served.in battle. My 5th great grandfather Abraham Heath served in the Virginia 6th regiment of the Revolutionary war from Dec. 1775 to 1783.
I would like to join,  I have relatives who fought in almost every war. My Great Great Grandfather was a Captain in the CSA during the Civil War and his Grandfather and Great Grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War. And my Great Uncle was in the 101st Airborne during WWII on D-day in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Also a few other relatives and im proud of them all.
Hi - today and tomorrow is the anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles. I asked elsewhere on G2G for some help to remember those who were killed and we have already made progress.

At the moment I am working on a freespace page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Battle_of_Fromelles_(1916) and I would appreciate any participants
I am particularly interested in learning more about my Maternal Grandfather, who served with the British and Canadian Armies in WWI.  He was an Engineer and Marksman and was gassed at either Ypres or the Somme. His brother also served, but I'm unsure with whom.

My Father joined the Cape Breton Highlanders and served in the First Canadian Division in Italy and Holland.

My Maternal Uncle served with the Canadian Engineers in Holland.

All of which is to say that I would like to join both WWI and WWII. Thanks!
I would like to join.  My gg grandfather George Patterson b. 1773. d. 1844.
Sept 23, 1796, Co. F, 3 Illinois Cav.
Also War of 1812
This info is on his grave stone.
I would like to join the ANZACS project as part of being a participant in the Australia project. I have already added what I know about any of my family who served during war time but would like to contribute more to profiles of ANZACS.
I would like to join, my late husband was a tanker in VietNam 1970-1971. I help widows file claims for DIC if their husbands die from GBM brain cancer like my husband did.

I would like to join the 1776, the U.S. Civil War and the World War II projects. I have at least three ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, and some that fought in the other two wars. For all my relatives I am digging deeper to flesh out their biographies. I would like to help others do with this.

Thanks very much

I retired (US Army Reserve) in August 1992 with eleven years of active duty (eight overseas in Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam, and Germany) and seventeen years in the Reserves in units in Germany, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee.

I also served as a Department of the Army Civilian from December 1975 to April 2001 in Germany and at Fort McPherson, Georgia.

While serving in the Third US Army (USARCENT) as a civilian, I was deployed to Saudi Arabia twice; once for Operation Desert Storm and once for Operation Vigilant Warrior.

My father, his brother, and my grandfather, all served during World War II. Dad and my uncle were both Marines and my grandfather was in the Army Air Corps.

My uncle went into the Army after World War II and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and also got three Purple Hearts in the Korean War. He would later get two more Purple Hearts in Vietnam.

I can trace family members in conflicts in America back to King Philip's War.

I'd like to join! I've never served but I've found a dozen or so Revolutionary War vets in my tree so far, and a captain in the War of 1812. I'm sure I will find more as I continue researching.

Hello, I would really like to find out more about the Cook/Cooke's during the Revolutionary war.  I've found many ancestors who were involved.  I'd be glad to offer any help I can although I'm fairly new here and still learning the format of wikitree.  Thanks for the consideration.

Most of my ancestors have served in every American war since the Revolutionary War, beginning with Captain Teunis Vrooman, captured and scalped by the Tories along with his wife and youngest son on their farm in Schoharie, NY, and his eldest son, Lt. Tunis Vrooman, of whom I am directly descended from, was soon after captured and brought to Canada where he escaped and eventually returned to his home in NY.

My great grandfather Clarence Charles Goodale, of Saratoga, NY, served as a cavalryman in World War I from 1916 to 1920, and in the battle against Pancho Villa later on.

His son, my grandfather Charles Russell Goodale, of Poughkeepsie, NY served as a Signalman in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

My grandmother Cpl. Dorothy Margaret Dillon, of Bedford, NY, served in the Marine Corps during World War II, one of the first female troops to deploy. Her voluntary enlistment was inspired by the deaths of two cousins in the attack at Pearl Harbor.

Hello.  I am proudly descended from war veterans at every generation as far as the Revolutionary War and beyond. My living relatives are either active or retired military.

My maternal grandfather was S.Sgt James E. BAILEY ( VFW POST 989 in Bartlesville. OK) He died from enemy ground fire when attempting to deliver relief packages yo the troops.

I have lots of stories,  lots of veteran-ancestors with letters to home,  photos and shared memories I'd love to contribute but I need to start with only one. I choose the Vietnam War.

Thank you.

I would love to join. My ancestor, Jephthah Clarke, was  a Revolutionary War soldier. My family has actively pursued information on his family and heritage for over 50 years. My Grandmother was a state officer for the DAR in the 60’s always having me included in the ceremonies. I have many resources for Revolutionary War soldiers connected to my family. I love to share our family photos.

Sincerely, Nancy Douglas

My ancestor Thomas Paine served in 1776, as did several relatives whose profiles I manage. My father served in Vietnam. I am trying to learn how to edit the posting for a relative whose profile I have adopted, Baggs-385, and would like to have help fixing an apparent error in his profile tag. -- I also have relatives in the French and Indian Wars, and the Civil War.

I would love to join. My father-in-law served in World War II. He was shot up and taken as a POW. The Germans operated on him and while he was recuperating in a hospital the FFI helped him and 3 others escape. The French treated them like royalties, giving them the key to the city, bouquets of flowers and the women kissing their cheeks. All of that was filmed and put in their archives. The mayor sent him a copy of it a few years ago. He passed away 2 years ago at the age of 93.

I would like to join this project.  I have ancestors who were in WW II, WW I, Civil War, 1812, and Rev. War.  I would especially like to add to the WW II American Theatre project as my uncle was lost due to U-boat attack in Caribbean and I have copy of a Navy "Action Report" about the incident.

Thank You.

I want to join the 1776 project.  By my count (from last year)  I have about 14 revolutionary veteran ancestors out of about 24 that meet the criteria of male, born between 1730 and 1760, and lived in America prior to 1775.

I was hoping to be able to join the main Military and War Project.

I've been a member of the 1776 Sub-Project for quite a while now and I do have allot of knowledge in many aspects of the Military and War topic.

It appears that I currently meet all the criteria as well.

Thank you very much for your time and understanding! :-)

Just to add, I'm a Disabled Retired Military Veteran of Abt. 22 years. I had served during many operations and under Presidential Orders as well. This is just an extremely brief list of experiences with the military.

I would like to join this project. I have multiple family members who have served throughout many of the American conflicts. My mother is in the DAR and my application is in process for the SAR. For example: James "Horseshoe" Robertson is my 5th GGF, and is the link for my mothers DAR membership. I have family who served in 1812, Civil War, WWI/II, and more. There are others that qualify as well. I am a retiree of the USAF at 28 years of service. Thank you for your consideration of my membership.

Regards,

Ed

Hello,

I would love to join the 1776 project.  I have an application submitted to NSSAR and my patriot paternal ancestor is https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Street-132 This is the work of 25-30 years to get to the point of being able to apply.  It is no easy process by no means and in walking this path it gives you a good education.

Want to join the 1776 project, I’m a SAR member and working on revolutionary war profiles. I come from a long line of military patriots.
by Ed Street G2G6 (8.0k points)

Hi there, Ed!

I have awarded you your 1776 badge. Here is the link to the project page:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:1776

And, here are the project's goals you'll find there:

  • Honor American Revolutionary War ancestors by connecting them and their families to the main WikiTree tree. These include all patriot, loyalist, Hessians, French, African Americans, Native Americans or any other person profile with a connection to the 1776 project.
  • Connect these profiles to the project by adding the appropriate project category and sticker to the profile.
  • Collaborate to improve project profiles through communicating via the Google Group or on G2G.
  • Ensure any duplicates are merged into the final lowest profile ID number.
  • Ensure that the biography is cleaned up, free of any GEDCOM junk, and ideally has a well-written biography.
  • Request project-protection from Paula J when appropriate.

Welcome to the 1776 Project!

yes!  I have been doing that.  To date, the best profile layout I have done is here.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Cheswell-3  I have been including as many resources as I can find, also DAR and SAR is #1 on the list for my goto sources.
Really nice work on that profile, Ed!
