Hi Edward! Thanks for joining our Project. I've awarded you your badge. Check out our task list here. Jump right in. We look forward to your participation!

I would like to join. In the over 8000 people in my family tree, quite a few were in the military. Including President Thomas Jefferson, many Military Officers, and a lot more privates in the infantry.
I would like to join. My dad served in Vietnam from 69-71. His dad served in WWII by lying about his age to enlist in the Army. He was later stationed in Germany & Korea (after the wars). My grandmother was an Army nurse when my dad was born. Her father was a Japanese POW in WWII. Another great grandfather was drafted for both WWI and WWII. I have traced other ancestors to the War of 1812 and the Revolutionary War (fairly confident on that one).
Hi, my name is Chris,I am a veteran and a avid genealogist . I would like to join this project as I am very proud of all my ancestors that served.in battle. My 5th great grandfather Abraham Heath served in the Virginia 6th regiment of the Revolutionary war from Dec. 1775 to 1783.

My Great Great Grandfather was a Captain in the CSA during the Civil War and his Grandfather and Great Grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War. And my Great Uncle was in the 101st Airborne during WWII on D-day in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Also a few other relatives and im proud of them all.
Hi - today and tomorrow is the anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles. I asked elsewhere on G2G for some help to remember those who were killed and we have already made progress.

At the moment I am working on a freespace page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Battle_of_Fromelles_(1916) and I would appreciate any participants
I am particularly interested in learning more about my Maternal Grandfather, who served with the British and Canadian Armies in WWI.  He was an Engineer and Marksman and was gassed at either Ypres or the Somme. His brother also served, but I'm unsure with whom.

My Father joined the Cape Breton Highlanders and served in the First Canadian Division in Italy and Holland.

My Maternal Uncle served with the Canadian Engineers in Holland.

All of which is to say that I would like to join both WWI and WWII. Thanks!
I would like to join.  My gg grandfather George Patterson b. 1773. d. 1844.
Sept 23, 1796, Co. F, 3 Illinois Cav.

I would like to join the ANZACS project as part of being a participant in the Australia project. I have already added what I know about any of my family who served during war time but would like to contribute more to profiles of ANZACS.
I would like to join, my late husband was a tanker in VietNam 1970-1971. I help widows file claims for DIC if their husbands die from GBM brain cancer like my husband did.

I belong (have badges for) The US Civil War and The Great War (WW I)   both my father and father in law also served in WW II and my cousin served in Vietnam.  I have cousins who are currently serving.  Hope that helps!  Do I need to do anything else?
by Laura Bozzay G2G6 Pilot (823k points)
I don’t think so, Laura. Are you in the Google groups?
I don't know. I do get emails from some google groups on WT but not all projects have had them.  So how would I know?  Is there a way to check to see if I am subscribed to specific groups?  I think I joined these projects long before google groups were used.  I remember when they come out on one project and people had to learn how to use them.
I served six years in the army and I have numerous ancestors that server in every war this country has had so I would like to join.

Sign me up, please.  Revolutionary War Period. [Revised:  I see I'm supposed to say something about my Ancestors.  I have about a dozen or so ancestors who fought in the Revolution (or the associated Indian Wars), 7 or 8 who were in the Civil War.  One or two each in WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam.  Oddly, none in the War of 1812 or the Spanish American War... that I know of.  My focus at the moment is the Colonial Period  through the Revolution. Thanks!]

Hi, I would like to join the project. I have several D.A.R. patriots in my tree who served during the American Revolution and am also a D.A.R. member. I also have ancestors in other wars like the war of 1812 and have a son currently in the ARMY. I think wikitree is the best place to preserve the worldwide tree and I enjoy helping document profiles.

I would like to join the project(s).

Ancestors in every generation since colonial times have served.  Am currently working on learning more information about military service of two ancestry lines Cratty and Collins.

Thomas Cratty, a Scot from Atrium in Ireland, was a British soldier sent to serve during the French_and_ Indian_War.  He stayed, married, and raised a large family, many of whom relocated to Ohio on Thomas' Revolutionary Bounty land, and were involved with the Underground Railroad in Ohio (perhaps also PA and WI). Thomas first settled in Chambersburg Pennsylvania, then was one of the earliest settlers further west in Beaver County north of Fort Pitt.  He also served in the War of Independence, 1776, perhaps also War_of_1812 in which his sons also served.

Jeremiah Collins line is more difficult.  He is said to have arrived with Lafayette's troops, from France.  It has been difficult to find resources to try to verify whether or not that is the case.  I don't know if French troops served at sea as sailors, or joined the Continental Army, or both, or if everyone who arrived with Lafayette was from France.
His Grandson Jeremiah served in the Civil War.  I have recently learned that they all were Jeremiah Daniel and each may have gone by Daniel sometimes, Jeremiah other times.  At least one of then also served in the War of 1812, also.

My grandfather served as a medic in WWI, father and uncles WWII and Korea.  I served in U.S. Army 82-89 (Cold War which is more or less unrecognized, but real).

I have additional ancestors who served during the Revolutionary War, but I have yet to learn more substantial information about them.

Please consider my request to join the 1776 sub-project.  I am a 3rd cousin to Samuel Adams (Adams-42) via our shared great-grandfather, Robert Walker (Walker-741).  I have over two dozen documented ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War.  Thank you for your consideration!

Good Day and the Best of the New Year

My interest in geneology is not new.  I have DNA testing with both 23 AND ME and ANCESTRY.  My interest in genealogy started about 30 years ago.  Both my wife and I learned much about the BONNEAU family from my Grandmother (Cecilia Bonneau nee Boyer).

I have a keen interest in Canadian Military History - a subject that instructed as a Recruit Instructor.  Also when in High School, I produced papers on the Dieppe Raid 1942 and a comparison of the Hitler / Napoleon attack on Moscow.

My specific interest is with my former Regiment - The Royal Regiment of Canada ( R Regt C).  If is interesting to note that my father in law (766877 John McGregor served with the 123rd BN CEF Royal Grenadiers (perpetucated by the R REGT C).

As a result of family related research, both my my own and my wife's is in The Great War and the Canadian Expeditionary Force.  As a former Royal, my interest is also with the R REGT C and in particular the 3rd (Toronto) BN CEF, the 58th BN CEF, the 123RD BN CEF Royal Grenadiers and the 124th BN CEF.

Recently my interest has developed into the recipients of the Military Medal (MM).  According to Wikipedia and the publication "The Complete medal roll 1914-1919 compiled by Peter Warrington and published by the Military and Naval Press, there were 115,589 medals issued in the Great War.  Of those, according to David W Love on A Nation in the Making, 12,316 were presented to Canadians (All of which are included in Peter Warrington's publication.

The following are my wife's and my relatives who provided service under the umbrella of the Canadian Forces and one with the Royal Naval Division.

766881 SPR John McGregor MM (wife's Father) who attested with the 123rd BN CEF Royal Grenadiers.  In the Canadian Engineers / Pioneer Battalion reorganization of 1918, he was transferred to the 9th BN Canadian Engineers.  Finally, he was later transferred to the 3rd Canadian Division Signals Company Canadian Engineers.  According to his personnel file he was wounded in Bourlon Wood (vacinity of Canal du Nord France) 27th Sept 1918.  John was awarded the Military Medal, but related details were elusive but with my wife's relating of her father's desciption of events and the War Diaries of the 3rd Canadian Division Signal Company War Diary, I was able to solve the puzzle.  He was citied in the London Gazzette 1919 for an incident that occured in 1918.

CZ2346 AB Thomas (Tom) Mcgreor (wife' Uncle - brother of John McGregor). Served with the Royal Naval Division (Anson BN) and died at Passchendaele and is buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.

228504 Pte James Benzie (wife's Grandfather) attest with the 198th Overseas BN CEF (presently Queen's Own Rifles - Toronto).  Before leaving Canada, he was reassigned to the 201st BN CEF.  He served with the 2nd BN Canadian Mounted Rifles (presently The South Albert Light Horse) as a Ferrier (associated with the Canadian Army Veterinary Corps - looking after horses).

192282 Pte George Hadden Murdock attested with the 92nd BN CEF (presently 48th Highlanders - Toronto) and served on the Western Front with the 15th BN CEF (presently 48th Highlanders - Toronto). Wounded 2nd Oct 1918 and died of wounds 29 Oct 1918.

45627 Sgt MA Hayden McGregor Crawford A GREAT WAR soldier in interest with possible to the McGregor and Crawford (Crawford in my wife's ancestry as well)

644748 Pte Thomas Bonneau (my Mother's Father) attested with the 157th BN CEF(present day Grey and Simcoe Foresters - Barrie / Owen Sound ON) and served on the western front with the 19th BN CEF (presently Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's) - Hamilton ON)

Although these are of primary interest, I know of family members serving in the 2nd World War as well.

I have uncles during the Cold War served with the Royal Canadian Navy.  My sister served with the Canadian Air Force and the Dental Corps as well.  I have personally  served 39 years (2 yrs R REGT C and 37 with the RCN).

Am I interested in particpating with the MILITARY AND WAR PROJECT - definitely.  But that is not up to me but those in charge of the project.

I am participating with wikitree because I recognized as a tool to assist me in documenting my family tree.  I have a lot of genealogical information already but need to populate that information in the family trees for both my wife and myself.

Elgin, I see that you have been badged.  You have an impressive resume for it and I am looking forward to seeing your contributions.  Be sure to request to join the Google Groups.   I see that you already added the MILITARY_AND_WAR tag to your profile.  You'll receive alerts when G2G forum posts are made with that tag.  There is a need for more folks with military backgrounds to help with category assignments.  If you see a post and you can help to describe the category structure it would be useful to reply.

I am a retired Pediatrician. I have been doing intense research on my family for about 3 years. I have two ancestors in my tree that I now recognize as American Revolution patriots. Would like to join the team for their profiles Vann Davis Davis-70680 and Isaac McFadden McFadden-317. Think there are several other on the American Revolution. Will be looking at other projects as I go. I know my father served in the Korean War.

Hi I am a descendent of Robert Cates and Mary Holmes

Robert Cates served in the Revolutionary War, first as a private in Col. Benjamin Foster's regiment in August-September 1777. In August-September 1779, he then participated as a corporal in Foster's regiment in the unsuccessful Penobscot Expedition to capture Fort George in Castine, Maine.

He married Mary Holmes on September 1, 1780. Robert and Mary's family were one of the four original families of Cutler, Washington, Maine, in about 1785. They settled at the head of Little River.Theirs was one of seven households recorded as living there in the 1790 census. They were also residents of Cutler in 1800, and likewise east of Machias in 1810. He died in Cutler on June 7, 1811.

I would like to join. I have added a bit of the war my ancestors participated to the category page here, but the war actually needs a a space page to be more comprehensive. I have added a space for one of the battalions here So far I managed to connect about nineteen of the soldiers to WikiTree profiles. If you could somehow add it to the project, I would really appreciate it.

The other battles/war I have been working on is here to which I have been lucky to add a little over two hundred WikiTree profiles

Hi Pip,

One of my great-grandfathers served in the Korean War. Two of my great-grandfathers served in the Second World War. Two of my great-great-grandfathers served in the First World War.

My 4th great-grandfather, Robert William Bennison(Benison-36) served in the 99th Regiment of foot in Tasmania. My 5th great-grandfather, Samuel Benison(Benison-33) served in the 31st and 39th regiments of foot in the Crimean War and in India. Another 5th great-grandfather served in the Napoleonic Wars and was a captain of the 20th regiment of foot while they were guarding Napoleon on St Helena.

I would like to join the military and war project to share resources and collaborate on shared projects. In addition to that, I would also like to join the ANZAC, Crimean War, Korean War, WW2 and WW1 sub-projects.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi all,

I'd like to join this project, particularly the 1776 subproject. I am finding several Minutemen and some more formal Revoluntary War soldiers in my paternal ancestry, most from Dedham and Needham, Massachsuetts. Included are William Eaton, John Bacon, John Bacon Jr., plus I think several others which need more research. I am pretty new to Wikitree, so I'll probably need some help!
