Since the Declaration of Arbroath has been mentioned again, could somebody please have a blitz on Strathearn?
was the 6th Earl, not the 7th. He didn't marry Joan Menteith-3 (PPP). She married his son, the real 7th Earl, this one
who is confused with his own son, Strathearn-49, currently connected as his brother.
The 7th Earl Strathearn-32 was never Earl of Orkney and Caithness, that was the son.
Most of his bio, and his wife Margery, and his daughter Isabella, all belong to his son. Isabella's mother is correct.
His real 1st wife is unknown, so his real son Malise Strathearn-49 and his real daughter Mary have unknown mother.
Having got that far, there's a string of duplicates to merge:
wife (PS see John's note below)
alleged daughter (suspect fictitious)
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Malise-3 (detach parents - theoretically they're his wife's) (PPP)
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/De_Moray-6 (lose wife Joan Stratherne-1, actually his daughter, next merge)
(Daughter Joan Douglas-506 should lose both parents, and the CLN. She could be the illegitimate daughter of Douglas-391)
Joan (husband is PPP)
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Stratherne-1 (detach parents)
Left with these issues -
7th Earl married to "Isabella of Caithness" - looks like a just-so story made up to explain the descent of the title.
Maurice Moray-50 married to the same lady who married his grandfather. Balfour Paul vol 8 thinks he probably wasn't Mary's son, but his father's son by an unknown previous wife.
