G2G: Where in Ireland was my Great Great Grandfather born...Andrew Riley in 1811.

I believe his parents were Mary and Brian Riley. Andrew came to the US in 1839 at age 28. Married Rebecca Cains and the rest is history....There is plenty in the census of Andrew and Rebecca in the mid 1800s as they lived in Massachusetts. But I'm trying to find where he was born in Ireland in 1811. Will be traveling there at the end of November and would like to do more research, but have no idea where to start. I was in Dublin 3 years ago and went to their city library that has genealogical help, but nothing dating to 1811...told me I needed to go to individual churches to look up info...any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Riley and its variants (Reilly, O'Reilly etc) is one of the most common names in Ireland, so unless you have some idea of the area where he came from, I'm afraid it will be literally the proverbial needle in a haystack.

Passenger lists of immigrants to the US might show his port of embarkation which would possibly narrow it down a little bit. I'm not familiar with those records and don't know if they ever show place of birth, but it would be worth a try.
