Aundrea,

I'm having difficult finding what happened to Harriet. Your Harriet was born in the 1770s; the Harriet Heming, daughter of Sally Heming (and supposedly of Thomas Jefferson), wasn't born until 1801.
Hello, autosomal DNA indicates I am related to both Jefferson and Hemings family.  I am related to Hemings family through Sally Hemings sister Betty Brown.  She had six children born between 1783 and 1801:  Burwell Colbert, Brown Colbert, Melinda Colbert, Edwin Colbert, Robert Colbert, and Mary Colbert.  Benjamin Colvard, Jr aka Ben Colbert, Jr was a neighbor of Thomas Jefferson.  Ben was also hired by Jefferson to work as cabinet-maker/carpenter at Monticello.  Mary Colbert was the last child of Betty Brown and Ben.  She was born in 1801.  Ben Colvard/Colbert, Jr also died in 1801.
I have 304 common ancestors with him, but the closest makes us 8th cousins 4x removed. Probably too far away for what you're looking for but it was fun running that analysis

Thomas and Michael are 12th cousins 7 times removed

According to Wikitree, he and I are alleged to be 12th cousins 7x removed. Our first common ancestor is [[http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/FitzAlan-633  Elizabeth FitzAlan Usflete]], Duchess of Norfolk.

Considering the number of generations between us and our FCA it would be difficult if not impossible to make a proof through autosomal DNA.

I just put up that I found out I was, and blow me down if I wasn't given a minus vote. Kind of puts me off answering questions. Best of luck to those who get positive votes.

Susan, don't take those up and down votes too seriously. It also could have been an error. I use my iPhone a lot to read wikitree. And I sometimes tap on the wrong (tiny) arrow completely by accident and may not realize I did so.

Also, I don't see where you posted your relationship to Hemmings and Jefferson.

One more thing, I've seen emotions run really high about their relationship. Despite the amount of evidence supporting the relationship, some people just really really don't want to believe that a beloved historical icon had a sexual -- possibly even a love -- relationship with and had children by one of his slaves. (On the other end of the spectrum, some people believe they were legally married, despite no evidence supporting THAT!)

More reasons not to worry much about a down vote on your comment.

Hey , According to the wikitree relationship finder I am related to Jefferson.  17 2x removed  and his wife Martha Wayles 10 9 x removed.  Jennings I don't know.  I haven't looked yet.  But probably.  I might be related to most of Virginia at that time.

It doesn't appear that I have a relationship to Sally Jennings even if John Eagles is her father. My relationship to Martha come from her mother's side.

Not that I'm away, but my search has been very limited.

Is assuming a relationship between Thomas and Sally good genealogical practice?  I know there are a couple of books out there arguing one way or the other, but this is an assumption based on y-DNA and Thomas had no male descendants.  From what I have heard, there is proof that Sally had issue from some Jefferson male not necessarily Thomas.

Would this type of evidence be allowed by SAR or DAR?
