Question about Benjamin Rush

Question on Dr. Benjamin Rush. I know John Harvey was his father and Samuel was his brother whom I thought was the modern day Rushes (my family's) direct ancestor.  However Samuel Rush left no issue so therefore my search stopped.  Can you lead me in the right direction on how to trace down to my grandfather Harry Rush whose father is unknown as he kept his mother's birth surname of Rush.  She (Sarah C.) being the daughter of Sebastian Rush of Farmington. PA.  Thank you

I love this question, because it opens up so many of the difficulties we have with connecting our very distant ancestors: Where did my information come from? How do I know it's correct? How can I prove/disprove the supposed connection? Can DNA help?

I myself have a connection to this family; Benjamin Rush is the son of my supposed ancestor, Susannah Hall (I descend from Theodore Theodorus Hall, her brother), but I received my "lineage" from my father's research and I don't know how he was made certain of his information, as he is gone now.

Teasing out all the supporting documents is difficult!

First, one needs to know the date / place of birth for Harry, and if known the date / place of death for Harry and ditto for his mother Sarah C. RUSH, and likewise her father Sebastian

Second, one notes that the profile of Dr. Benjamin Rush and his descendants in WT contains no Sebastian RUSH. Just saying. So using Benjamin's profile in your post does not seem to be helpful.  Of course it is possible Sebastian has not been profiled as yet.

Third, your search may be confounded by the possibility that Sebastian is not a blood kin of Dr Benjamin. I did find a Sebastian, which FAG has a substantial biog taken from a book Sebastian Rush (1808-1878) - Find A Grave Memorial but HIS father is Levi Rush and mother is Mary Kemp. No mention of Sarah C.

Yes it's difficult.  Samuel 1730 father of Levi Rush 1783, Levi Rush is father of Sebastian Rush 1808, Sebastian Rush father of Sarah C. Rush my great grandmother 1849. Sarah is the unmarried mother of Harry Rush my grandfather 1869.  This is about all I could find, but Wikitree indicated Samuel 1730 left no issue.  So more confusion. So many Samuels and John and James in this family. Thank you for your help.  Please comment if you have any.

laughTo be sure it would be easier to follow if Levi, Samuel and Sebastian were profiled -- Sarah Catherine RUSH has census attached to her profile at familysearch site, 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1900, 1910, 1930 (she d. 1938) -- did not see any children around although the 1900 Census (she was Van Bremen or Bremen marriage surname then) states she'd had two children and two were still living -- 1910 has the surname vanbruner -- Mr Van Bremen was not  the first spouse, they'd been married five yrs in 1900 and no children in the hh

I leave you to discover the previous spouse, in supposing she did not have 2 children while unmarried

AND in any case I'm supposing you know most or all of this

Sebastian Rush (1808-1878) - Find A Grave Memorial which has an excerpt from a book (a biog)

"United States Census, 1850," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4HD-GVB : 12 April 2016), Sabastian Rush, Wharton, Fayette, Pennsylvania, United States; citing family 60, NARA microfilm publication M432 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).
