This profile recently had the first name changed from Baby to Unnamed Infant

I don't have a real issue with this change but I want to be sure I am correct in our policy for documentation.  This profile had a first name of Baby which matches exactly what the gravestone states.  It was changed to Unnamed Infant. I figure there must have been an error report on this for the name but Unnamed Infant all on the same line looks incorrect as well. What is the correct policy for naming this profile?

Hello Gurney.

  • If an infant died before he or she could be named use what is on their death record according to their conventions, otherwise use Unnamed Infant. Do not use Infant BoyBaby Girl, etc. There is a gender field for this.

So if the headstone states Baby, then we use Baby.  is that a correct interpretation that the headstone serves as a death record since it has a picture on the FAG profile?

According to the help page:

Proper First Name

This field could also be called Formal First Name or First Name at Birth.

This is the formal given name that would appear in official documents.

There was a DBE 724  (Wrong word in First Name) in the profile's "Suggestions" because of the word "Baby" in the First Name field. The "Action Step" required is

  1. Correct the content in the field see Name Fields Guidelines

That is why the profile's first name "Baby" was changed to "Unnamed Infant".

(A headstone unquestionably is a source, but, according to WikiTree policy, could a headstone be considered as an "official document"?)

BTW, there was also a DBE 509 (Missing gender). I have just marked it as a "False suggestion".

The status of both suggestions can be seen here:

Thanks Ruben.  I changed the name back to Baby and made a note for future data doctors to mark this as a false suggestion.  I appreciate you taking care of the missing gender suggestion.  I also know that data doctors are doing a great job.  This falls in one of those gray areas that can be easily overlooked.
You are welcome, Gurney.

Many thanks for the star.

From Gurney "This profile had a first name of Baby which matches exactly what the gravestone states."

From the rule "on their death record"

Gurney. I would say that this name was incorrectly changed if "Baby" Schlegel appears on their gravestone. Others may disagree as the general trend at wikitree is to conform to a more one-size-fits-all pattern.
