Rhatz? You don't know either. No one does because we don't have profiles yet. Please help create profiles for the Tuskegee Airmen. This free space is a list of the pilots only; it does not include the navigators, bombadiers, crew chiefs, mechanics, cooks, nurses, and other support personnel.

Years ago an organization I worked for hosted a talk by one of the Tuskegee Airmen. It was both fascinating, and an honor to meet him.

I have information pertaining to 2 Lt Frederick Lorenzo Brewer, who crashed in the Italian Alps on 29 Oct 1944.  He continues to be listed as Missing in Action.  I do not see his name on the list.  Should I just start a profile?  And how do we link the names to the ones on the list?

I created (and categorized) a profile for a Tuskegee Airman back in December, and I am pleased to see that his profile got linked on the free-space page. One concern I have had when I do a profile like that is that the person I am profiling has living children, and because I am not family I have some reticence about what I say in the biography.

I noticed that you added a purple heart sticker to the latest Tuskegee bio.  All of these Tuskegee KIA/MIA's would have received a purple heart.  Is that something that I should be adding to each profile?

I just recently discovered the purple heart sticker for another profile.  It was hard for me to find it! If they all got purple hearts, I think it would be neat to add it. I don't know much about the purple heart, but I always thought it was a big deal?

Not sure if "big deal" is correct, although maybe a bigger deal to the awarder than to the awardee. My dad got one for surviving a WW2 plane crash in the Philippines, and his attitude was why get a medal for something not earned-- for luck.

I have a Tuskegee Airmen!!

James E. Wright. Wright was part of a "military experiment" in Tuskegee, Alabama during World War II, to train America's first African-American military pilots. In time the "experiment" became known as the Tuskegee Experience and the participants as the Tuskegee Airmen.

I think you are talking about 4 Star General "Chappy" James. He was the leader of the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII. I had the distinct honor of serving under Gen. James when he was commander of Wheelus AFB in Libya. I was with him when Capt. Khadaffi implemented the coup that disposed the King of Libya (our ally). Gen. James was a Col. in the USAF then and I remember him not only as the bravest man I ever met, but a very kind and generous man and also a great commander. I miss him greatly. There is a memorial for Gen. James at the Air Museum in Birmingham Ala. (brought me to tears). God rest his soul. You will never be forgotten Col. "Chappy"
