This is a photo taken about 1923 of my grandfather C. A. Lovelace Sr. He came from Pennsylvania in 1909 to Oklahoma to make money in the oil field business. After several dry wells, he decided to start a new business, and this is the beginnings of Muskogee Auto Accessory Company.

This photo of my great-grandparents Arthur Lewis Mampel and Katherine Louisa Geissner marked two beginnings: that of the new century and their 56 year marriage.

This is one of several photos my uncle found; it was sharpened up very well by him or a cousin.  I always liked this picture because my great-grandmother had the most unique wedding dress I ever saw.

Here is my father's sister Frances with her first child, in 1922.  This was a new beginning for her as she was new to motherhood but went on to have 6 more children.

I'll give it a try this year, my first time.

This photo is of my parents as newlyweds. Taken on 10 October 1942 in Syracuse, New York, the morning after their wedding day. Due to the war, they didn't actually live together until 1946.

52 Photos Week 1: Beginnings

Ivy Belle Porter was the first child of Martin Miller and Mary Dutcher Porter. She was born August 17, 1884, in Momence, Illinois, making them parents for the first time. Ivy went to Momence rural  schools and graduated from Momence High School in 1903, one of the first graduating classes.

Ivy attended Northwestern University and Indiana State Normal University and became a teacher, teaching in Illinois and in Newton County, Indiana, also in Lake Village and Kentland, Indiana.

The above picture is dated February 1, 1912, and is Ivy's wedding picture to Harry D. Brunner of Kentland. I think we are on a third or fourth new beginning.

Ivy and Harry had their first child, Margaret Virginia on April 7, 1919. I am sure they were thrilled to death with their new baby girl, but on March 20, 1920, Margaret died. Their second daughter, Margaret was born September 7, 1922. 

All of this time, Ivy and her husband were moving around, farming property that they did not own. 

It was after the 1940 Census when they were finally able to purchase their first home near LaCrosse, Indiana. From there they moved into LaCrosse where they were living in October of 1958 when Ivy became very ill and  died on December 9, 1958.

This is the first ancestor's photo that I was given by a distant cousin and was, thus, the beginning of my genealogical journey.  It is my 2X Great Grandmother Louisa Banks Flintoff.

So, I'm trying to do the 52 Challenges. I posted my pictures to the free-spaces for week 1 and week 2. It was then that I saw I was supposed to answer here as well. Week one is a picture of my parents' second marriage to each other marking the fresh start / new beginning for our family. Exactly 10 months later my sister joined the family.

Here's the beginning of one generation and the end of another, in 1921.

This is my grandfather, Ben Mounts, with his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother in 1921. He said he called his great-grandmother "Old Old Grandma." She would have been about 92 at the time, so she was indeed old.

I deviate a little and have not used a photo of family members.

I have taken a photo of a page in a family Bible passed down a few generations.  It is the page that records my grandparents wedding date.  They are James Sims (1889-1962) and Alice Elizabeth Drake-Sims (1892-1981).

This is the beginning of the next potential generations.

I don't know when this picture was taken, but I do know the event - it was my great-grandparents first date! Charles Edward Reilly and Kathryn Dunn McHugh had the fortune of having someone photograph them before they left. Unfortunately for me, the friend kept the picture, so we only have a scan of the album since the family would not give us the actual photo. But this marked the beginning of a really great family!

Paul & Bonnie McKinize (My parents) leaving the church as newlyweds. My dad always said she was looking at his old girlfriend when the pictures was taken. My mom always denied it.
