One of our fellow members has been delving into an interesting question. In writing about the children of Ann (Edwards) Squire Hobart by her first husband, John Squire, Jacobus wrote, "Recompence and Thomas Squire, children of Mrs. Hobart by her former husband, were bapt. at Easthampton, 9 Dec. 1705, her eldest having been [previously] bapt. by Mr. James. As Rev. Thomas James d. in 1696, the eldest Squire child was bapt. before then ; and may be a John Squire who was b. abt. 1692." (FOOF I:576).

Has there been any further scholarly research on the possible son John born in 1692?

I checked NYGBR an article on William Edwards lists dtr ann married the father John. says some account of the family is given in Howell's Early History of Southampton, LI and in Hedges' A History of the Town of East Hampton.

There is also a book : The  SOUTH FORK SQUIRES, Long Island New York, by Tiger Gardiner. 1992. Concerns two families. one being. John Squire of East Hampton ( - 1702) The reviewer thinks highly of it.

Hope you can find it.
Thank you, Anne. I'll see if the Gardiner book can be located.
