Welcome to the Mid-Atlantic Team's Chat Page!

This might be a good place to ask questions, brag about your exploits, or just cheer the rest of the team on! The Scan-A-Thon starts 10 January 2020. Once it starts (or once I figure out the address) I'll post the link to the Stats page so you can check your progress.

The Mid-Atlantic team is not usually very chatty, but I am open to it.
I plan to monitor this in case either I have a question or someone has any questions that I may be able to offer some guidance.

I do have a handful of photos & documents I had electronically obtained/scanned recently that I had held on to when I saw the Scan-a-Thon announcement.

I did notice that a few additional individuals had joined the team too.

Just a quick heads-up Lucy...

I had sent you a PM with a link for a zip file that has 2 images I wanted to give you as a personal contribution to the team for the Scan-a-Thon 2020.

Thanks a bunch! :-)

Hey guys, I'm new this year so have a question. I have a ton of old b&w photos from my husband's family photo album. I know the first 10 photos count but does it matter what they are of?
by Dawn Hutnik G2G1 (1.7k points)
Only the first 10 photo per profile count. In other words, they don't really want more than 10 photos on a profile. It does not matter what the photos are of for the purposes of the Scan A Thon.
Thank you!

This is my first time doing this.  I’m going to be scanning in multi-page letters from WWI.  I’m thinking I should scan them as a pdf with multiple pages in the one pdf.  Is this alright for the scanathon?  I guess each pdf will only count as one upload, right?  Thanks for your help!

If you scan a pdf it will have to be clicked on to view. You could also do a free-space and post each page individually. That may be more work, but it all depends on how you want to present your precious memories.

Has anyone started uploading yet? I uploaded a few photos so far.

I've been steady uploading ALL day. I have a TON of documents already in electronic format from when I built my ancestry.com trees so all I've had to do is pull them from the applicable folders on my external hard drive.
I just checked the overall user stats. I'm in 6th place! Woo Hoo! Of course I think I'm going to sign off for the night as my eyeballs want to pop out! Happy scanning all!

I started photographing a small cemetery across the street from my work. I thought I created all the profiles, but once I started uploading photos, I realized that I hadn't. Oh well. Then I started looking at old photos I got from my cousin that we had no idea who they were. Their father wrote notes, but they were mostly, "my mother" "RJ Betts" or stuff like that. My cousins are in their 70s and 80s and if they don't know the people, how could I? I figured out a few of them though. So that was fun.

I know the feeling...

It's funny that when I was navigating to the various profiles to add/upload the photos/documents, I was noticing various profile issues I didn't realize before.

I must have corrected a ton of them... LOL! :-)

I've been uploading a lot of our "family gravestone photos" all day. I have to take breaks from time to time as it becomes a bit morbid. My husband and I have been fortunate to be able to travel to a lot of the places our ancestors are buried. Especially his family as they were large families and did not move around much. I'm glad I named the files with everyones proper names versus nicknames and filed the on my external hard drive based on family unit. Has made this endeavor easier and quick. But, I can understand the frustration of cataloging. Has taken me YEARS to get the many pictures I have cataloged.
