How can I add sources to this unsourced profile?

The profile for Mary Ellen Jeffries has a template that says the profile needs sources.  I found a source to add but apparently one must be on the Trusted list to be able to add a source.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jeffries-1597

That does seem counter productive.  I'll not bother trying to get on the Trusted List.   The birth source is here at the bottom of the page, left hand side, if anyone wants to bother with it:  http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=1825083&Type=Birth.  Now with the parents' names, I'm sure census records could be found.

So WHY does one have to be on Trusted List to add source??

You can post the source as a comment, for the profile manager to add to the profile.  Thank you for locating a source.
Janie,  I posted the source in a comment on the profile.  To my mind you are correct in your frustration.  However, I also understand the need to "protect" profiles of persons that have only passed within our lifetime.  Keep up your good work!

I started to write an answer, but I don't set the policy so I can only speculate.

My observation is that generally privacy is set to "edit by trusted only" for close relatives.  And I speculate that Wikitree honors that to be respectful to family members.  I think when a person has been dead for 150 years, their profiles have to be open.

Born over 150 years ago, dead over 100 years ago.

This particular profile is set at Green privacy, which means everybody can see everything, but only the Trusted List can edit.  Sorry, Janie, but it's policy!

As others have mentioned, when I come across this problem (a profile that can not be edited for privacy concerns), I post the source in the public comment section of the profile.  That way, The profile manager sees the addition, and I don't have to be added to the trusted list.
