Why can't I add a living person, using initials, "extra privacy" and "living" for the dates?

I carefully followed the instructions for a living person, using only initials for the name, marking the birth date "extra privacy" and death date "living" but I keep getting a screen with the date spaces in red, and no child added.  Perhaps I should just not make profiles for the children.

You have to have a birth or death date. The “hidden for extra privacy because living” button was mostly a holdover from when GDPR was not in effect and any profile could be as public as you wanted to make it. Also it can be used for member profiles. You still have to have a date (aka a year is fine) in it, it just hides it from “public view” when looking at a profile. (Which would not exist for them until they became members or died)

Thank you.
Of course, good luck with your profiles! :)

You stated "you have to have a birth or death date."  But according to the Help section on this page...

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Date_Fields#Date_Status_Options

...it states each date field has a status indicator next to it, and one of the options is "intentionally blank."  Additionally it states "If you know a person is living, select "blank because living" by their death date."

I am trying to enter a living spouse of a deceased uncle. (This is a former spouse, of whom I don't have access to their information.  But I want to enter them so that I can then add a child of my uncle and this spouse.  And yes, the child--my first cousin--is living [adult] but the reason I want to add them is because they are a DNA match for me, and I need to reference their Wiki code for my DNA sourcing).  (And yes, I know living people are marked as private, and yes I know that I will only be displaying their initials when I create my source entry).  I don't know the living spouse's birth date (not even an estimate).  So WHY can't I create an entry for this person without filling in their dates, when the Help screens specifically tell me that I should be able to?

You don't need a spouse to add a child.

That may be so, but I want to.  In part because this uncle went on to have another spouse, with more children.  And I want to differentiate those children as being from a different spouse than the first child.  Regardless of why, the Help page indicates I should be able to, so why can't I add someone without a birth date?  (Anyway, it's a moot point now, because I already added her with a "fake" [estimated] birthdate).

Personally, I would avoid adding profiles for living people.

Under the current GDPR rules, any profile for a living non-member of the site must be Unlisted, and you cannot add a profile for a child under 13 unless you are a parent:
