I just recently started my WikiTree Watt-4476

Canada East, Canada West, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia

This is concerning my 2nd Great grandfather Robert Watt b abt 1814 St John New Brunswick who married Sarah Flagg b abt 1810 profile Flagg-338.

Some of the family trees have Robert Watt listed, profile Watt-4480, some have David Robert Watt profile Watt-1187 listed linking the profile as one person.

There are conflicting sources on Sarah that she married twice.

First marriage to   David Watt 27 Mar 1834 Grand Manan, Charlotte, New Brunswick, Canada

In these 2 profiles Watt-4480 and Watt-1187 have similar information but clearly are 2 different men

If this is correct the first 2 children are David’s and the others are Roberts.

In some of the family trees on WikiTree and other ancestry sites for Sarah Flagg , husband David Watt, Robert was added as the middle name to explain the 2 names in the records. But this does not address the difference in the marriage dates or locations of the two marriage documents.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated in putting this question to bed

I don't see any David Watt's at all in Grand Manan at this time.  The records I've noted in Sarah (Flagg) Watt's profile show she married first Daniel Watt in 1834, and then in 1840 married Robert Watt.  The name "David Robert" could be accurate, but it could be conflated.  Either way the name David doesn't seem related to her first marriage unless there was a mistake in his name in the newspaper announcement.

The earliest reference to David Watt I can find is in 1850 in Saint John long after he should have died, and then a much younger man of the same name.

I agree , I have been researching for a while now , record for Sarah Flagg's oldest daughters Eliz Jane Watt (Googins) b abt 1836 death notice list David Watt as her father and Son Robert Turner Watt b abt 1840 death notice lists Robert Watt as his father

It is not uncommon for a widow to marry her husband's brother or other close relative.  Is the first man dead before the second marriage?  If so, this lends credence to there being two men who married the same woman.

How far apart are the locations?  If a great distance, perhaps that suggests there are two different women.

Can you connect David and Robert as relatives?

Sorry that I'm not terribly proficient with Canadian records (or more than basic geography) to be of much help.

I have looked into your suggestions , cant find a connection between Robert or David at this time. Grand Manan ,Nova Scotia and St John New Brunswick  close in distance .

Thank you,

I appreciate your input very much
