John Merrill and his wife Katherine John, need proof

Question

Looking for sources for John Merrill Merrill-1247 and his wife Katherine John. John has a date of death of 28 Jan 1452 and his wife is said to have died on 13 Dec 1451.

Merrill-106 his descendant has a death of death of 29 Jan 1552 and his wife Katherine John died on 13 Dec 1551. 

This seems a remarkable coincidence and I suspect the early Merrill and his wife are a conflation with Merrill-106.

How best to sort these people out?

John Merrill (1545/12/22 - 1609/12/22) was also his son. I have the same death dates for John Merrill and Katherine John. This info from ancestry.com. My John Merrill's go further to John Merrill (1470 - 1529/03/12) and his wife Anne Belchum(1475 - 1528/12/03). And the line for me goes to Thomas Merrill (1444-1478) and Margaret unknown maiden Merrill (1448-1480). Then John Merrill III (1400-1452/01/28) and his wife another Katherine John (1402-1451/12/13). Then John Merrill II (1375-1429) and John Merrill (1350-1420) and Mrs John Merrill (1355-death and name unknown). This info from ancestry. I have continued to search each of these name and will continue. There is that gap between 1350 and 1066. A challenge. I do not know if this helps.
