marion gibson's ancestor william cary 276

Question

i note that william cary 276 was born in scotland, but on another genelogical site, he was born in virginia. on that site,he married judith jones, but the information on wikitree is he married jean maxwell. any reason for discrepancy.

marion gibson 1516 was my 3rd great grandmother.

Without knowing what other site you saw the profile(s) on I couldn't accurately comment on the reasons for the discrepancy. Does the other site have the same descendants & ancestors for the profiles? I know that a lot of people moved from Scotland to America & continued the Scottish family naming conventions there, so similar names do appear in both countries.

You could could contact the profile manager here on WikiTree using the private message link to discuss the variance with them & this may clear up your question for you. Another method would be to search Scotlandspeople (http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/) for the Scottish records of birth & marriage in the Old Parish Registers section to verify details and then go to the appropriate site in America and do the same there and compare the records.
