My father-in-law is an athlete and coached track and field at the University of Maryland.  In 1961, he ran a race at Laurel Racetrack against a horse and a car.  He won!

This is a 1945 photo taken of my father-in-law, LeRoi Nelson, who was an avid fisherman and golfer. He has just gotten into port in California and met his son, my husband, for the very first time. He has come back to the States after his ship was destroyed by kamikazes, and he has been gone for two years. My husband thinks he would not have been fishing in his uniform, but I think he was, since he may not have any other clothes. Anyway, they fished and played golf together for many years.

This is a wonderful photo, Alexis -- your husband is so cute. That fish is almost as big as your husband! Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you Robin for your sweet comment.
When you're on active duty, those are your clothes ;-)
SJ, I love your knowledge about the military!
What a lovely clear photo and LeRoi looks so happy and proud of his son.
Thank you Christine. LeRoi was a wonderful father, and I think you are certainly right.
Gorgeous photo Alexis of your father in law with a fish, with your husband. They both look dashing

Thank you for sharing this wonderful photo

When my dad was in the Civilian Conservation Corps the guys hiked in all the mountains around their base in Utah. This is the closest they got to this peak. Other photos on the free space page show the peak from a distance.

Year one for me, week three.

How wonderful that they took photos, saved them, and now you have them!

My Great-Uncle, Dale Omelia Allison (1903-1978) was a competitive swimmer ... but most of all he was an excellent diver ... he won many diving titles while in high school, college and the military.

My family has never, apparently, been very athletic, but here's a picture of my father playing badminton about 1947. It's more interesting to me because he exhibits such happiness, which is not something he always had in his life.

It is a wonderful photo, thanks for sharing!
Yes, it is a lovely happy photo.

This is a new discovery (since Thanksgiving): I was looking at newspaper articles for some ancestors and I found a mention of my gg-grandfather Oliver Ranck's family.  In the article it is mentioned that his son Howard Ranck has entered his horse "Dexter" in the 4th of July race at the Spring Creek festival in Wisconsin.

SJ, glad you are finding more great information about your Ranck family.

A first cousin, Kathleen Joan Heddle Bryden,  is a Canadian rower. Heddle and her long-time rowing partner Marnie McBean were the first Canadians to win three Olympic gold medals. In 1997, Heddle was awarded the Order of British Columbia and was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

The picture did not display because you need to click under the photo in the images section of the profile to get to the point where the URL shows a .jpg at the end. Then you can copy and paste this URL into the blank. I know this because I made the same mistake and saw the lovely double framed white question mark with the blue background. Hope this helps.
I have tried all of the suggestions and the photo still will not appear on the page.  Getting frustrated now!
Let me see if I can be more specific. This is what I did when it worked. First, I clicked on the icon in the upper right that looks like a mountain range with the sun on the left. It is four icons to the left of the smily face.

Then, I opened a new tab in the browser and went to the profile where the image was. Then I clicked on the "image" tab to display all the images on the profile. After that, I clicked on the image itself. Finally, the URL appeared that had the .jpg at the end. This is the URL that you have to copy and paste into the box that appears when you clicked on the mountain range. I hope this provides better clarity.

Thank you!  I was successful, finally! smiley

I absolutely love this photo of my Grandma in her high school sports uniform (either basketball or softball) from her 1927 yearbook. She was a lifelong sports lover. Later in life, she followed both football and baseball and loved the Chicago cubs. During baseball season she always had a transistor radio with the ear phone in her ear as she worked away and listened to the games.

Saphyre, your grandmother is adorable, and her shoes are so interesting. Thanks for sharing the photo.

My Gt. Grandfather John Edward Reeves who was a photographer took this photo. He was also one of the directors of the West Ham United Football club and on the ground committee.  The photo shows the 1909-1910  team.  My Gt. Grandfather emigrated to Australia the next year.

My grandfather, David Thompson, belonged to a baseball team back about 1900, I believe in Ontario, Canada. This is a picture of his team with a small check mark above his head. I do not know the names of the other men in the picture.

Conrad T. "Flip" Flippen went to Phoenix Union High School and graduated in the "Class of 1931".  Arizonacentral.com states "Football, Basketball, Baseball, Track & Field; Widely considered one of the state's top two high school athletes of the first half of the 20th century and perhaps the greatest athlete in Phoenix Union's storied history, Flippen was a natural athlete who excelled at everything he tried"....."Flippen was The Republic's Player of the Year. In football, he was a Republic third-team All-State halfback as a junior and first team All-State quarterback as a senior.

This is a photo of my grandfather Julian (on the left) judging beagles at an event called "Puppy Day". I have a better version of this picture (In color I believe) but I have no idea where it could be. This one and a few others from that day made the newspaper. (The sport is beagling)
