WikiTree reports John Lewis' wife, Sarah (alias Mary) Lewis, as a daughter of Matthias Button. Mathias had daughters named Mary and Sarah, but they are kown to have married Edward Yeomans and James Kingsbury, respectively.[1] Matthias' daughters could not also have been married "6 April 1650" to a John Lewis who reportedly died 6 February 1690.
I don't know the identity or ancestry of John Lewis' wife. Her profile is confused. The baptismal date of Mathias' eldest child, Mary, seems the reference point for Lewis' wife's birth, but the birth location is given as "Westerly, Washington, Rhode Island." She is said to have died 1673, but has children born as late as 1690.
Hopefully Lewis researchers will take an interest in her profile, but there seems no reason to continue to associate her as a daughter of Matthias Button.
Hoping only to be helpful, below are entries from Savage that seem to suggest John Lewis' son Daniel may have married a Mary Button who might have been the daughter of Peter Button.
In his 1861 reporting about various Lewis families and/or family members, James Savage wrote (emphasis added),[6]
[Lewis] DANIEL, Westerly, R. I. 1679, perhaps was s. of John of the same, m. Mary Button, d. prob. of Peter and in his will of 1 Feb. 1718, names eldest s. John, Jonathan, Mary, Dorcas, Daniel, and Hannah.
Savage also writes,[7]
[Lewis] JOHN, Westerly 1669, had John, Daniel, James, David, Israel, and Samuel.
