I am interested in learning more my Bell ancestors that are primarily from Dumfries. I have ancestors with many other last names but they all eventually connect with the Bells. I also am interested in learning more about the Ulster-Scots and the Mitchells who ended up there before eventually ending up in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

I would love to join your project.  I don't have a lot of time, and have a lot to learn.  On my dad's side, William Forbes and his wife Christian (Christiana) Tawse, brought their large family to the US in 1837 from Aberdeenshire. On my mother's side, there is William Jasper Duncan, born in Tennessee in 1842, and his mother, Lucy Greer, born about 1815 in Virginia. Lucy is a brick wall.  I am looking for DNA cousins who share this pair as ancestors, in hopes of finding her origins.

Very interested as I am now focusing on tracking down my maternal Scottish line: McDonalds, McKinnons and Mathesons are what I've discovered so far, in Cape Breton, some of whom I have tentatively identified as coming from North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. But I have never joined a project and feel quite intimidated and like a little pupa compared to so many of you, so am blindly raising a hand here :)

Hi Jennie!

No need to feel intimidated smiley we're a friendly and helpful bunch!  Jackie will be in touch shortly by private message to take this forward.

Thanks, Amy, for the warm welcome! I´ve been working solitarily on my tree here for a few (seven?) years, and the idea of being part of the community is lovely if you´re any indication.  Jackie did get in touch promptly, and was very informative, so I´ll be dipping my toes in after I figure out where the right tidepools for me are wink

My family is traced through the Fletcher line. This is my maternal grandfathers line. He was adopted, but in doing extensive research we discovered it was actually a biological adoption (from a family member).  I know that they were from the region called Argyllshire and emigrated to US through Canada. I believe my direct descendant is Archibald Fletcher. My family lineage is also Irish and Danish.

I would like to volunteer for the Scottish Project. My ancestors are mainly from the Dumfries & Galloway area, particularly Thornhill, Colvend and Kirkcudbright. I have traced them back as far as the 1700's.
