I have been compiling the family tree of my father's family. When my father was 5, his father James Frank Shane, took the three children away from their mother and younger brother and traveled around the country, changing their names as they went, so my grandmother could not find them. At the time I started the Shane family, I was not sure of my grandfather's given name. So, I didn't match the James Frank Shane with that of my grandfather. Since then, I have been going through my mother's papers (she kept 41 years worth) and found a small notebook that gave the various names my grandfather used over the 8 years that my father and his siblings spent away from his mother. I now have the given name of my grandfather along with that of my great grandparents - also the names of my great- great- and great- grandparents. My father, James Franklin Shane, did not like to talk about his father or those 8 years that he missed with his mother. There's more to the story, but I am definitely sure of the family history and family tree now. I would like to adopt the family tree and be able to complete the family tree with the additional names I now have. Ora Grace was my great aunt.
