Who are the parents of Hannah, wife of Reuben Hull?

The profile of Hannah (Fernside) Snell aka Akcock is confusing due to inconsistencies.

The data portion of the profile says her father's name is John Fernside (note spelling).. She apparently had three husbands, only one of whom is in the data portion of the profile. Her first husband's name is John Farniside (note spelling), second is Reuben Hull, and third is George Snell.

The narrative says her father is John Alcock.

This family is tangential to one I'm interested in. Perhaps someone with a bigger interest in the family should correct these inconsistencies.

Well, according to U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700, p. 691, she was maybe the daughter of John (it shows Fernside).  Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988 has a Hannah Alcock born 25 May 1643 in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of Thomas and Margary Alcock.  The NEHGS Register, Vol. 97, p. 12, lists her DOB as 25 May 1642 to Thomas & Margaret Alcock.  Her Find-a-Grave memorial has her dates as 1640-1726 in York, Maine and daughter of John and Elizabeth Alcock.   This site also lists her father as John Alcock of York, Maine (who it shows married Elizabeth Wrightman).

According to the last site above-mentioned, George Snell who married Hannah Alcock married three more times after marrying her.  It shows Hannah Hull as a different person than Hannah Alcock.

I'll do some more digging, although I have no relation to the family . . .

The NEHGS Register, Vol. 36, publ. 1882, p. 401, has John Alcock (of York, Maine) with a daughter Hannah.  His estate was divided in 1675 and Hannah Snell received a portion (book shows she married George? Snell -- i.e. they aren't sure of his given name).  When Hannah's brother Job made his will in 1712, he left a bequest to John Snell (son of Hannah, his sister).

According to an article in the History of the town of Durham, New Hampshire, by S.E. Schermerhorn, p. 225, Reuben Hull was born c 1644, married Hannah Alcock (dau. of John Alcock) Farniside in 1672, and died in 1689, after which Hannah married George Snell of Portsmouth.

Any chance there may have been two different women named Hannah that have gotten mixed up in various records?

And then . . . according to an article in The Old Northwest Genealogical Quarterly, publ. 1910, Vol. 13, p. 34, Reuben Hull was born c 1644, married in 1672 to Hannah Ferniside, daughter of John Ferniside and his wife Elizabeth Starr.
Darlene,

Thank you very much for this in-depth review. There is certainly confusion in this (or these) family (families).

I am not related to this family either, but my son-in-law descends from the Hull family, although Reuben is the not the direct line.

I will look for  him, Reuben, in the Hull Family in America by Weygant and also check the Hull Family Association website.

George

Darlene

Weygant’s Hull Family in America does not mention a Hannah Alcock in connection with Reuben Snell. Reuben’s wife is named as Hannah Fernside, with parents of John Fernside (not Fernside) and Elizabeth Starr. Hannah latter married George Snell, and the Hull children are named in his will. Weygant cites other documents that links the Snell and Hull families.

It seems the preponderance of evidence suggests that Hannah Alcock should be removed from Reuben’s profile.

George

So it sounds like, as I mentioned, two Hannah's got combined into one.  So we should have Hannah Alcock m. Unknown Snell and Hannah Fernside married first to Hull and then to George Snell.
This sounds quite reasonable to me.
