The US Civil War: War Between the States project is dedicated to those individuals who participated in this conflict in whatever capacity, whether a soldier, spy, or even those who supplied either side during the conflict. It is not necessary that you have an ancestor who fits this description. If you have an interest in this part of American history, you are more than welcome to participate.

Just post an ANSWER (not comment) below and I will gladly add you to the project (as well as the overall Military and War Project). Go to the project page to see what you can do to contribute our project!

Please request to be added to the Google Group as well as the Google Group for Military and War since this is a sub of that project.

My husband’s family was deeply affected by the Civil War. All 4 sons and all 4 daughters were in the war or married someone in the war. 2 sons died.
I have family that fought in the civil war on both sides. My family has found in every war. I am interested in the civil war. I would like to be added to the civil war project
Hi , I really enjoy history especially US and American history.
Yes

Thank you

Eugene
I would like to join the project,  I have been interested in the civil war ever since my mom took me to Shiloh TN as a preschooler.  I have had some experience searching WWII records to see what happened to my uncle. (things don't add up)

I did not have a genealogical interest in it, but if I continue developing the family line on which I am currently working, I may end up with a greater interest than previously, as I just discovered the brother of my one veteran was also a veteran (both died at Vicksburg).

(I already have the M&W badge, so am not seeking addition to this Project, just indicating possible interest and a maybe plea for help at some future time. cheeky)

For folks  interested in history of  the  CW in  Virginia, Robert J  Driver  wrote  a  series  of  books  about  the  Calvary units
I would very much like to be a part of this project. I have many Confederate ancestors. Some survived the war and others did not.
I thought I had this badge since I applied several months ago but I see I do not. I have been adding the sticker to profiles for some time now. Is there something I should be doing other that what I have done to get this badge and work in the group?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Nancy
Hi, I am interested in joining the U.S. Civil War project.

Thanks,

John
Nancy, I see your badge in our list of members of the Civil War Project.

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Badges&u=14108468

John, I've added your badge. Here are the goals of the US Civil War Project:

  • Identify profiles of individuals who participated in this conflict.
  • Add the project sticker to their profile along with any other appropriate sticker such as POW, KIA, etc.
  • State Resource Pages. Compile resources for individual states and counties to assist others in researching ancestors/events in those locations. View the lists on the resource page at State Template Page to see individual states.
  • Categorize profiles appropriately in regards to military unit, locations, battles, etc.
  • PPP (Project Protected Profiles): Request that your participant be PPP'd via a project leader or any WikiTree Leader. Please do a search of all profiles with the correct last name at birth to identify the lowest numbered (original profile) profile to be protected. NOTE: There may be other profiles of the same person but with different spellings of the last name. For further explanation, please see: Process for Merges G2G.
Glad to have you aboard.
Thank you for adding me to the Civil War Project.  William Armstrong Coulter, my 2nd great grandfather served in the 1st Iowa Regiment - Calvary Unit.

I would like to join this project so that I may honor my ancestors who participated in the Civil War.  I have one great uncle William Henry Nellis who served 4 years with the 11th Iowa Infantry and spent time in Andersonville.  I have his diary for that entire time.  His father John Alexander Nellis also served briefly before he had a sunstroke and was sent home.  I know there must be more ancestors who were in the military for that war.

I joined this project a while back and finally got around to putting a sticker on an ancestor. I would love it if someone would provide comments on the sticker. Chase Ashley's new list app inspired me to make sure the sticker was there and so far it hasn't linked me to this ancestor, so I'm wondering if I did something wrong with the sticker. Thought I would check that out before I take any other steps!

Just on my dad's side of the family, I have at least 26 individuals that served during the Civil War.  With the 17 different spellings of my mom's maiden name, it might take a little bit longer to determine how many served during that time period.  I already have the Generalized M&W Project Badge, as I have family all the way back to the Revolutionary War.

I would like to help with this project. My great-grandfather George Dempsey Martin served in the Confederacy and was a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas, IL, from December 1864-June 1865. My 2nd great-grandfather Horatio Nelson Richardson served in King's Brigade in Mississippi. Several other relatives also served on both sides of the CW.

MY 3rd GG was in the Union army.  He was James Walter, 16th PA cavalry Co. D & B 161st Pennsylvania volunteers.  He was captured at Payne's Farm during the Mine Run Campaign in Virginia Nov 29th, 1863.  He was later paroled at City Point VA on March 14, 1864 and died the same day from "Prison Life".  I am looking for info on where he was in prison and any other info I can dig up on him.

I am so interested in joining The Civil War : War between The States. This War happened less than a hundred years before my birth, yet has effected me more than any war. My Ancestors all immigrated to Northern New England which consisted of Massachusetts, Connecicut, R.I, Pennsylvania, up state New York, and then on to Michigan.  Although each of my Great Grandfathers, Great Uncles, and Cousins all fought for the Union, they all fought in different battles along the east coast. most made it home, but some did not make it to see their Familys again. Two of my Great Grandfathers fought in two of the biggest battles, Gettysburg, and The Battle of the Wilderness. I have detail accounts of what these Soldiers endured everyday, side by side their comrades, only to watch them die. I myself am a veteran, so please consider letting me join the Civil War Project.

Had a lot of relatives on both sides.

The most interesting to me were three brothers who were born in Philadelphia and raised as Quakers.

One was in the 9th Texas Cavalry, one in the 13th Virginia Cavalry. and one in the 12th New Jersey Infantry. The last two were at Gettysburg.

I would like to join the US Civil War project. I have found it quite enjoyable to research and write biographies for New York-based Civil War veterans, including the three ancestors of mine who were veterans.

I am interested in joining this project.  My ancestor, Branch Flagg Ayres [Ayres-1946], enlisted with the 21st Massachusetts Infantry April 1861. The 21st was assigned to the Burnside Expedition to North Carolina. While enroute on the steamer "Northerner," he came down with typhoid fever. Fought at the battle of Newbern, North Carolina, March 13 & 14, 1862. He was slightly wounded by a spent ball, and being overcome by fatigue and exposure, was sent to the hospital.  He was discharged June 22, 1892 with a disability due to typhoid fever.  He re-enlisted December 20, 1863 with the 21st Massachusetts Infantry, which was on furlough, Under General Stevenson's 1st Division.  He fought at the "Wilderness" May 6, 1864, then moved on to Spottsylvania "Bloody Angle," North Anna River, and Shady Grove Road.  He mustered out October 8, 1864.  Total length of service as one year and nine months.  His sister compiled his story in 1892, which I still have.  His narrative is invaluable to my family's history.  I would love to share his story and help in this project.
