Hi Mark, great question. You didn't provide a link to the profiles you're referring to so we have to look at your tree and make a guess as to which Thomas you're referring to. In your tree I see Thomas Smith (1605-1693) as the father of James Smith, b. 18 Sep 1837. Thomas Smith's profile is managed by the PGM (Puritan Great Migration) Project and Thomas' bio shows that his son is James Smith, born 18 Sep 1837.
When you're working on profiles that are managed by other members and projects it is a good idea to reach out to the existing profile managers and let them know your concerns, post any sources you have and make a recommendation to make a change. You can post a comment to the profile comments and if after some time, if no one objects, you could make the change. Even if you have a source that disproves something on a profile, it is always a good idea to signal your intentions when others are involved and engage all who are interested in the profile (descendants, managers, project members, etc).
