Merging a Gedcom file to a already hand entered tree or the same names

+3 votes
I have my TREE (33) names ready to merge, I already have a HAND ENTERED tree here and now I have deleted my Great Great Grandfather to perhaps MERGE with his Son

(1) Great Great Grandfather = 21596

(2) Great Grandfather ID = 21461

I have tried MERGE and "These are not valid IDs" go to WATCH LIST to check and done so, in doing so I thought of trying just the IDs and still get the  same message

OR SHOULD I just delete the HAND ENTERED Names I already have (5-6 left)

Thanks for your time

On the ancestor's profile page, you can find the ID number too.  Like on this one:

You see all the information on him, then the first thing you see in the yellow bar below that is Weitzel-78.  That is his ID number.

It is always the last name at birth, a dash, then a number.  So, 21461 or 21596 are not the correct ID numbers.

Hi Graeme,

I am wondering whether your question was answered completely?

Here is some basic information on merging  You can find information on almost anything by clicking in the upper-right of your page "Help" and then "Help Index"

We don't delete profiles here at WikiTree.  If you want to connect already existing profiles to each other, you can go to the edit page and click to add a parent, or child, or spouse.  Then you can enter the WikiTree ID.  It is always the last name, dash, number, (without any spaces between).

Please let us know if you need more information, and thanks for asking your question, ... and welcome to WikiTree!  smiley
