My late father, an RAF serviceman during WW2, married in Calcutta India, an American WAAC sergeant called Mildred Margreta Hansen. He was born in 1921 and she was seven years older than him. Although “GI brides” were eventually able to reunite post war, GI husbands like my Dad were strongly disapproved of by both countries who insisted on demobbing their own service personnel on their own sides of the Atlantic. Their divorce was thus inevitable. No cheap flights in those days. Dad remarried and lived to the age of 95. I am his eldest of four children. From the UK I have been unable to find out if there was a similar happy ending for Mildred. If any researcher can find out I would be grateful to know. Thank you.
