I’ve identified the birth names for four orphaned Unknowns. System won’t allow me to update. How can this be done?

I have emailed a Mentor, but haven’t heard back yet.

You have to be on the Trusted List of a profile to change its Last Name at Birth:

As our fellow WikiTreers have said, adopt the profiles if they are Open-Privacy orphans, change the LNABs, then orphan them if you don't want to manage them.

You need to adopt, so you can edit the Birth Name, you can after doing this unadopt

Thank you, Heather. I felt that this was probably the answer. I didn’t want to adopt any profiles, as I’m tapped out, and as far as I know, Unadopting isn’t easy (scrolling on one’s watchlist?) but I’ll figure it out!  I was hoping there was  another, simpler solution out there??? Thanks for your help!

It's easier to un-adopt (orphan) a profile if you do it while you're still on the profile.  Adopt it, correct the LNAB, add the source(s), and then (after saving everything, of course) go back to the privacy tab and remove yourself as manager.  No scrolling through your watchlist needed!  smiley

The adopt and un-adopt becomes a quick and easy task, after doing several times. As soon as I change the LNAB, I send the profile back to the Orphans
If you need to find the profile, and you remove yourself from the trusted list soon after editing, it will be near or at the top of your contribution list.
NaN..

Thank you! This I can do. I haven’t figured out everything on wikitree yet, and you and G2G have always been really helpful when I get stuck. Many thanks to all who helped with this one.

Unadopt is Orphaning and you go to Privacy, click, scroll down to "Remove yourself" and click and it is done.
