Introduction and how to get started?

Hello, my name is Betsy and my main line is McHenry; however, I have a lot of information about other allied lines and are more than willing to share.  I'm at not sure of the correct way to handle this, especially in situations where my data may connect or give someone else another branch to follow.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Betsy,

Welcome to WikiTree! We are all here to grow our world-wide family tree so your contributions are most welcome.

Use the link to the new member how-to page that Wendy posted to your profile. It is a great place to learn how to get involved.

Once you start adding your profiles, you will bump into other people's profiles. That's great. If everything is fine you can simply connect. If you have more info to add, add it. If there's a conflict in the info or you are making major changes, contact the profile managers and collaborate.

Hope that helps. Take your time and enjoy the journey. And ask again (and again) if you have more questions.

Hi Betsy ... welcome to Wikitree! I hope you have fun and enjoy using the site. Getting used to it can be a bit daunting at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a great site.

You can request help from a Mentor, if that's what you had in mind. On the top left of every page, you will see a list of items starting with My Wikitree, then Add, Find, Help. Click the drop down menu, scroll down to Mentor (just above Style Guide) and click on the word Mentor. That takes you to the mentor page, and you can find a Mentor there.

Also, don't forget to ask lots of questions. Some one will be happy to help you out, and you'll get a great answer usually pretty quickly.

Best of luck!

Welcome Betsy! I'm rather new myself, and always learning from those who help out here on G2G!. I would just like to say, read up on the how-to information, look at how other profiles are done, work slowly on one profile until you feel you have it completed as much as you can, before adding a lot of other profiles. Jump in and have fun! If you get stuck, or have questions, don't hesitate to ask here! There are a lot of great folks here that will help you out!

Start by adding your parents.  Then their parents, and so on. At each step, follow the WikiTree prompts in checking for existing profiles, and don't forget to add sources to your profiles.  Eventually you will link into the main shared tree.  Then you will start meeting relatives with whom you can share information.
