Why do we see Rebecca (West) Symons born Rhode Island?

Rebecca (West) Symons is seen in WikiTee and elsewhere as born Rhode Island circa 1654. Is there any evidence for this? I find nothing in vital records and other sources that would indicate she or her father Robert were in Rhode Island. Is this perhaps based on a Robert West found in Portsmouth by 1645 for which I don't believe there is a daughter Rebecca.

There are Robert Wests found in Nugent Vol 1 in Virginia who might be more likely candidates as the West family that is then found in the Albemarle and Pasqoutank but, so far, nothing to document this is the West family later found in Carolina.

Perhaps someone tried to graft her onto a set of Quaker Wests from Rhode Island. Here’s an unsourced Robert West of Newport, RI, born 1624. 

This whole family needs records to back up the tertiary sources cited. Supposedly his dad Matthew was a Baptist in Newport, but Robert’s generation moved and were members of Shrewsbury (NJ) MM.
