I'd love to know more about Johns ancestry and remember him talking about his father perhaps having something to do with the British India line?

Thanks, Ruth! And thanks for posting your memories of John. It definitely adds to my understanding of him.  His ancestry is certainly diverse and global and I wonder if that contributed to his planetary understanding of humanity and the downtrodden people in every country.  I was a proud owner of the Sandinista album and I could listen to "The Call-up" and "Washington Bullets" over and over.

We are talking about Joe Strummer (John Graham Mellor) of The Clash in case anyone was wondering.
